My wife sent me purchasing dishwasher detergent the other day.

We used Cascade Complete Non-Bleach (why do people need Bleach in everything anyways?), the liquid one due to bad experience with the powder in our Bosch DW (the powder turned our DW into a sandblaster: All the glass items ended up being milky after a while).

When I stood in the isle, I noticed the "Platinum" version of the Cascade Complete we had. Knowing that this product was released in Europe last year under the brand name "Fairy", I figured I'll give it a try.

Being an Engineer, I gave it the "commercial field test": I put in a crockpot with burned-in grease, a bowl with dried and crusty leftover cereal and oatmeal, an apple-pie casserole with baked on crust and apple juice and finally: Plates with dried on egg leftovers. Before you give my wife a hard time: NO, we are not slobs letting everything dry before cleaning! But since this was a "test" for this new dishwasher detergent, I threw at it the toughest leftovers we could come up with. What's the point of having a DW if you have to pre-wash the dishes, right?

I didn't expect much from this test, as the regular Cascade wouldn't be able to get rid of these leftovers. But, hey, this is the "Platinum" Edition, right ;)

In the morning the whole family gathered in front of the DW. It felt like a scene out of "Narnia" when we opened the door: What would we see? Would the dirty dishes scream at us? Are there little Elfs inside, waiting to be released? We all held our breath, and MARVELED at the results!

Not a SINGLE leftover item was to be found on any of the dishes. The dishes and DW smelled fresh, clean and looked like we just brought them in from the store! AMAZING!

I was at Target a few weeks ago and needed to buy dishwasher detergent. I was going to buy Cascade Complete Action Tabs with Dawn when I spotted Cascade Platinum. Platinum is a bit pricier than the Complete and P&G claims the best cleaning results and also keeping the dishwasher tub fresh and clean. I gave it a try. I'll get to this in a moment. Several years ago Maryland banned phosphates in dishwasher detergent for environmental issues. Now, most if not all dishwasher detergents are phosphate free in the USA. I rated the Cascade Complete with Phosphates 5 stars. However the reformulated versions without phosphates rated 3.5 to 4 stars in my book. The glassware and plastic products were not as clean and, there were some residual water and particles on the tops of the glasses. I read somewhere online that adding a quarter cup of 20 Mule Team Borax would improve cleaning quality. I did this for several months. Along with the Cascade Complete cleaning performance improved to 4 to 4.5 stars. I was satisfied with this combination. However, at various times during the year it would be next to impossible to find 20 Mule Team Borax in stock. In addition, with the phosphate free formula, I'd sometimes have detergent that failed to fully dissolve and was caked in the detergent cup.

Now, to Cascade Platinum: I tried it without any 20 Mule Team Borax and so far I'm extremely satisfied with the cleaning results. This new version of Cascade reminds me of the Complete with Phosphate. And the plastic tub looks and smells clean like the dishwasher was brand new! So far, it has dissolved with no problems. Like with other dishwasher detergent tabs, I do place the powder side down with the swirly stuff (Dawn) facing outward. I never use the heated drying cycle and use white vinegar as my rinse agent.

My dishwasher is plastic inside - and it was starting to get a lot of hard water residue on the sides and the heating elements - and the dishes were not getting as clean as I like.
I decided to try Cascade Platinum. I have not even finished half of the first pack and the insides of the dishwasher is cleaner and the Dishes are getting cleaner. I am not currently using a rinse agent - but I don't feel like it's necessary with Platinum.

Very happy with this product!

I was getting very discouraged that my dishes were becoming covered in white residue, and that the inside of my fairly new dishwasher was as well. Also, my dishes just weren't getting clean. I tried jet dry and lemi fresh, and neither helped. I saw a commercial for the cascade platinum and figured I would try it. After about a week of using it, my dishes looked like new. Glasses that were covered in white film were sparkling! Plus, the inside of my dishwasher is also sparkling clean. It is pricier than that cheap dish liquid I used before, but I don't care. It's worth it!

I've mostly been a lifelong user of Cascade, but in the last year or so I've been most satisfied with Quantum Dishwasher Tabs, Blue, 45 Count. I recently picked up this product and once again, Cascade is on top for me!

The reason I moved to Finish Quantum is because it worked as well as Cascade Complete, but it was cheaper. Now that Platinum is out, it does do one better in that dishes are not only clean and spot free, they're completely dry when the dishwasher stops. With Finish Quantum, I didn't get spotting but a lot of the dishes were not completely dry for me when the washer finished.

I do use a rinse aid as well, and haven't changed anything with that between the brands.

If you want a dryer spot free dish, give it a try! I've been pleased.
