Product Description

Casio brand, model STLS100H-2AVCF,

Casio

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

Take a look around. Unlike the majority of affordable watches on Amazon, 99 percent of Casio watches are rated 4 or 5 stars. That is because they're typically affordable, have lots of functionality and can take a serious beating. This one is no exception either. Seriously, how can Casio even afford to stay in business by selling this much watch for this kind of money? Well, that's a question that's up to you to answer for yourself, but it's to our benefit any way you slice it.

This is a typical Casio digital with a focus on functionality for joggers and runners, although it can serve as a time keeper in any environment. I'm a climber and I have a Casio Pathfinder that costs ten times as much as this Tough Solar that I can depend upon while up on a mountain. However, I find that this watch has all the functionality I really need while climbing. And if I smash it on a rock or the band gives out and the watch goes tumbling down a slope, I won't cry as much, and if I was able to retrieve it later, there's a fair chance that it would still be running.

The Casio G-Shock line has a reputation for taking a horrific barrage of punishment, and a legion of fans who often collect scores of them. However, most people don't realize that the term 'Tough Solar' essentially means that these watches are made to the same toughness standard as the G-Shock line (comfort may be another matter though). This watch appears to be able to take as much punishment as any G-Shock, but that's left to be determined. What I can tell you is this: I tossed a $300 dollar Suuntu into the trash after it bellied up on a mountain during a wet and cold climb, whereas this watch just shrugs it off. Enough on that, but I wanted to illustrate the extreme durability that these watches exhibit.

Nice watch. Difficult to set time & date due to intricate & confusing directions. Somewhat over engineered. Uses a lithium batter that is solar rechargeable. Recommend Solar Tough with orange markings. Basically a plastic watch with metal back & a long lasting solar lithium battery. Shuts down in the dark. Light & comfortable to wear. Good watch band Never throw away he User's Guide. Recommend it to users who do not replace batteries. Recommend it over the more expensive Casio models.

There are not seven Casio solars in my extended family. Every one of them has performed flawlessly. If you buy one, read the manual, especially the section covering the kinds of light that will charge it and the section covering the power saving mode.

The blue accents on black really make a nice look, the teeth on the buttons are also a nice touch. The solar feature with the power gauge is great. The functions are easy to use. I've only owned if for a month so I cannot comment on durability and so forth but this is a great watch for 40 bucks.

While the watch is nice and has several functions, there was a specific problem with the one I received. The watch itself would shut off and reset everything when passing through shade (even when it's sunny around everywhere) or even inside the house (where it is still brightly lit). This problem was narrowed down to either the solar charging circuit or the battery. Neither of which I was willing to send back for repairs. Not wanting to deal with this kind of hassle should it come up again, I asked for a refund instead. Overall, had this watch not had those problems, I would have liked it.

I received the watch in time. The watch looks pretty and sporty. You can set both your own city time and the world time of the city you want easily. Since this watch needs to be regularly charged in full as instructed, therefore I put it next to the window facing east before bed and let it be charged next morning when sun rises.

Casio is a brand name watch maker that you can trust. There's a reason why so many of their products are so highly rated. I needed a no frills, sturdy, functioning watch as a gift for someone who could wear it all throughout the day without having to worry about wear and tear. It came in its won box so I was able to gift wrap it with ease. The display is nice and bright and handily only shows the time and date. So with merely a quick glance, someone could easily tell what time it was, the main purpose of a watch.

The black band and light blue highlight colors work well to complement each other. Being solar powered means not worrying about having the battery die on you. I have many fancy watches that stop working because of watch batteries dying within a year of replacing it. There is a convenient stop and start button for a timer when the need arises.

I have nothing but good praises for this item and I highly recommend it to anyone.
