I've been convinced of the benefits of resveratrol for several years. There is evidence that it may have beneficial effects on lifespan and overall health due to anti-inflammatory effects, cancer prevention, cardiovascular protection, lowering blood sugar, and other effects. After doing a lot of online research, I became concerned that the amount of resveratrol I had been taking wasn't high enough to achieve the benefits claimed for resveratrol. I read that there is some evidence that doses as high as 5 grams have no adverse effects on humans. The problem is that no one knows for certain what the minimum dose is to obtain the benefits of resveratrol, but from the various sources that I researched, 200-400mg a day seems like a reasonable minimum dosage. A 2-capsule serving of Trans-Resveratrol Ultra provides 1020mg plus other nutrients generally believed to be beneficial to human health. I think that one capsule a day (510 mg) may be sufficient, but at my age (69), a 2-capsule serving seems like the prudent dose to take.

So far, I've been pleased with the product, and I've had no adverse side effects. The bottom line: With Trans-Resveratrol Ultra, I believe that I'm getting the benefits of resveratrol in a safe, effective formulation.

I don't know if it is a total coincidence, but I am convinced that these resveratrol pills cleared up my skin issues in about 2 weeks. I had made an appointment with my dermatologist because I had a very large, stubborn blackhead that had persisted for about a year despite trying EVERYTHING under the sun (blackhead clearing strips, scrubs... I even tried (unsuccessfully) to pop that sucker), as well as a tiny white cyst (milia) on my eyelid that had also persisted for about 9 months. I am now going to cancel my appointment, as both of these issues have completely disappeared - I still can't believe it. I started taking resveratrol after reading about the powerful anti-aging effects that they have on skin. I didn't realize that at the time that they are also very effective in clearing up skin issues. I would highly recommend these supplements!

The label states: trans-resveratrol (50% from polygonum cuspidatum) (root). The tricky part? That's where they don't tell you what the other 50% is: CIS-resveratrol! They loudly trumpet the TRANS on the front but the other is goes unmentioned. Well, the CIS-resveratrol half makes the TRANS half useless because it cancels out the good trans-resveratrol!

Unfortunately, all resveratrol is expensive although it's made in China, as far as I can make out - but it's vital to know there are two types of resveratrol and only one has benefits. Trans-resveratrol is stable and easily absorbed by the human body while CIS-resveratrol is NOT stable and NOT easily absorbed. Pure trans-resveratrol has an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbence Capacity) level of 30,000 per gram.

Unless the seller states on the label that the product consists entirely of the trans-resveratrol form, assume it contains either some or all cis-resveratrol, which is much cheaper – and dangerous. Only the trans isomer of resveratrol has been associated with health benefits. The cis isomer actually nullifies the benefits of trans-resveratrol.

Also, even if they are pure trans-resveratrol (and I haven't found a single product that is) none of the products contain anything close to the dosage shown to be beneficial in research studies. For example, in Sept 2015, the Daily Telegraph reported on research showing that high dose resveratrol can stop dementia in its tracks.

On the front page was a report about a study with over a hundred people with mild to moderate dementia who were given 1g of high-grade resveratrol twice a day for 12 months while a control group received a placebo. Those taking the supplement showed no deterioration, suggesting that the disease had stabilised.Read more ›
