My cats, two of them with renal disease, took to this food right away. They lick their plates clean for the first time ever. And I called the company, who told me that the duck version is the lowest in phosphorus and sodium. The wet food is good for their kidneys, providing extra water, in addition to the fluids that I give one of them. And it's 95% duck, and 100% grain free, no corn, soy or wheat. The renal food that my vet had recommended had corn in it, and one of my cats is highly allergic to corn. None here.

Update, 12/6/11: One of my cats now has normal kidney values. The vet says there is no sign of kidney disease!

Every since they changed their duck recipe (about a month ago), my bengal cat is not linking it. She prefers the Blue Buffalo chicken recipe over the duck now. Before the recipe change, the duck was #1, then the chicken. The previous recipe had lots of gravy and was a solid pate texture. Now it's like a sponge texture with hardly any gravy. It's definitely not the same. Please please change the duck recipe back Blue Buffalo!

Correction, the retailer (petco) was sending an older variation of the product. They should be sending the newest variation but it seems they are sending Amazon customers older products. I have called petco of what they are doing and they said if it happens again, simply return the old variation to a store to be replaced with the latest variation. My bengal cat loves the newest duck recipe (all silver can), not the old variation with yellowish can.

I have one cat who has been particularly resistant to eating wet food (I've been trying to make the switch). I did get him to eat a lot of cheaper foods (Fancy Feast and Sheba) but I wanted to get him on more of a premium food -- preferably something grain free. Complicating the situation are the facts that he doesn't usually like paté-style foods and he doesn't usually like foods that have been in the refrigerator for any length of time.

At any rate, he ate this right up the first day I offered it to him. I put a lid on the can and left it overnight. The next day, I got it out of the refrigerator and opened the can and two OTHER cats were interested. I spread some around on a plate and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. Then I gave it to the cat who doesn't normally like refrigerated foods. He is licking the plate clean as I type this.

This listing has a shipping weight of 9.3 pounds although it doesn't list the number of cans. 24 cans of this are about 9 pounds. Add a bit of weight for a box and you get to 9.3. So you should be getting 24 cans of this food if you order quantity 1.

This is a high protein food so would be best for growing cats, healthy adult cats, and cats without kidney problems. It is grain free although it does include a few thickeners. It got a reluctant cat to eat leftover, paté-style cat food (two things he normally hates) and it got two other cats interested, so it seems to have a great deal of appeal for cats. Definitely recommended.

My cat is 18 years old and very picky about food. When I started feeding him the Mature Recipe he started eating the food like crazy. He has a hard time keeping weight on so this is the only wet food I buy for him now. Whatever is in it older cats love it.

Best kitten food ever. Have multiple kittens and there was a noticeable change in their development and energy when they were on this food vs the others. I recommend you rotate this with the Salmon flavor and add some fish oil when you can for those early weeks and months. Oh! And the vet said to mix water into this for the first three months or so- gets them hydrated and hooked on water so that when they are stronger they can drink the water they need from their water bowls. That tip really helped and now they drink away, thankfully. Excellent!

I got these for about $25/case on amazon. Expect to pay at least $30 - $40/case in a retail outlet. T

This product is as bullet proof a cat food as I have found. Kittens devour it. Pregnant Queens devour it. Nursing Queens devour it. Queens after weening devour it. Studs devour it. Adolescent cats devour it. It has replaced Fancy Feast as the go-to product in the cupboard ...(I am speaking about "Chicken Recipe for Kittens" only, be advised that the 'regular' Chicken Recipe is packaged identically minus the words 'for kittens') When I put this food out vs any other cat product, this food disappears the quickest, cats will ignore other foods and come straight to the BBCRFK bowl. It rarely lasts more than 60 seconds...in the case of a hungry Pregnant Queen, it might last 20 seconds. .and if a cat ignored it I might take that as a sign that the cat might be ill.

My only complaint is that it is still pricey even when on sale.

My kittens were undersized when I adopted them from the shelter. I slowly switched them to Blue because this the the brand I have fed my dogs for over 6 years. Their first Vet visit at 9 weeks, the Vet said they were too small to give shots to. Once they started eating a mixture of the wet and dry kitten food they gained weight quickly, and within 2 weeks I took them back and they received their first shots. The vet was amazed at how well they were doing on this food. They are now 4 months old, and healthy happy kittens.
