Awesome drive for the Xbox One. Very fast and quiet. Great price for a 1tb 7200rpm drive. Also when you set your Xbox One to power saving the drive turns off when the Xbox One does. If your Xbox one is set to instant on, it remains on when you power down the Xbox One. I really like the fact that you don't need an additional power source for the drive. I did have one issue with it when I connected it to my Xbox One with the included usb 3.0 cable. The Xbox one would not detect the drive. My computer and other devices would detect it, but not the Xbox One. I called HGST and Microsoft tech support and neither one could help. I read on forums where other people had the same issues, with no luck in finding a solution. So I replaced the cable with an Aptiva usb 3.0 cable and it was immediately detected by my Xbox One. The cable that ships with this drive is very short and the quality isn't as good as the one I purchased. For some reason the Xbox One just does not like the included cable. Just thought I would pass this on to those of you that might have the same issue. If you call HGST they will send you a free replacement. The Manufacturers warranty on this drive is for two years

Ogiginal review on 1-Jul-2014: I bought this one to use with my Xbox One. Everything works great and already moved all games to it. No issues with performance. Recommended.

Update (19-mar-2016): Changing from 5 stars to 3 stars, for now. Long story short, the hard drive has multiple bad sectors now. I installed the HGST tool that checks the drive and it aborts after a little while due to too many bad sectors. It doesn't seem to be related to the cable problem others reported. I tried a different cable and it's still failing. I just filled their RMA form. I'll update this review after my problem is handled by their customer service.

Tip: If you have slowness loading games or freezing games, suspect of your external hard drive. Install the game on the internal hard drive and see if the problem persists.

Long story: It was a painful process to realize the hard drive was the problem. A combination of factors made me think and troubleshoot other items for a week before getting down to the hard drive. I started having problems right after buying, and installing, The Division game and, coincidentally, having a internet outage in my area the same day that I thought could have damaged something on my network.

The game started and I could play on certain areas, but then it started having all kinds of loading problems loading environments elements (see screenshot), sounds missing and the scenario breaking putting me outside of the game area (see video).

I thought the game was getting data from the internet. I thought it could be my router, my cable modem or something with The Division servers, as they could be overloaded on first weekend after launch.Read more ›

Build quality is very decent. The top and bottom of the drive is constructed of a thin durable lightweight aluminum, however the outer bezel of case that holds everything together is white plastic, this was a bit disappointing but after handling the drive and using it the build quality seems solid and the look grew on me. Setting it next to my apple bluetooth keyboard I noticed that the silver and white scheme matches the drive perfectly and the white buttons on my keyboard are plastic anyway so why should I knock this drive for using a bit of plastic at a price of $100 bucks. The drive has a simplistic sleek design and paired with a mac products the silver and white is a perfect match.

I did want to knock the drive a star for not having rubber feet or little nubs on the bottom, it seems that the bottom of the drive with get scratched up from sliding around on my desk and from use on the go. How hard would it have been to just stick on little rubber feet in the factor? Well I ran to wallmart and bought a verity pack of them and used the smallest ones on each corner of the drive base, this also helps it stay put and not go sliding off the desk should someone bump it or something. I guess for the price I am extremely happy with it so I kept the 5 star rating.

As for performance this little drive delivers! At a 1tb size, this is a good enough to use a mobile editing drive for my wedding videography and also I can plug this into my iMac launch premiere or final cut and keep going seamlessly! Love the USB 3.0 speed with a true 7200rpm performing hard drive. Lecie and G-Tech have similar drives however seem over priced with you can pick up a pair of these for only $200 bucks! I am definitely going to pick up a few, however HGST, I recommend you raise the price a whole dollar and add on little rubber feet on the base of the drive or perhaps include 4 stick ons in the packaging and let the customer install them as an option.

I'm editing my review today (July 21, 2014) and upgrading my appraisal of this drive. (I'm leaving original review below for reference.)

HGST support was very helpful, and I had no problems reaching a USA-based representative by phone. They sent me a replacement USB 3.0 cable, with which the drive no longer is prone to disconnection. This would place the blame for disconnects on a faulty cable in the original package. HGST does not make the cable themselves, and maybe I was just unlucky to get a badly manufactured cable. The replacement cable is not the same 'brand' as the original cable, however.

I have not used the drive very much, but file transfers are fast with USB 3.0 connection on my Win7 system. I recommended this drive to someone for use with Apple Mac Time Machine backups, and after a quick format to Apple HFS file system, their Touro drive is working fine in that capacity. (The silver aluminum and white color also complements their Mac environment.)

The aesthetics of the drive are great, and it's impressively small but, as stated before, it would have been nice if there were rubber feet or similar material on the bottom of the drive to prevent it sliding on a smooth desktop surface, as well as protect the matte aluminum case. I added my own self-adhesive rubber pads, which I feel improves usability.

I'm upgrading my review to 4 stars from the original 2 stars. I would have no hesitation recommending this drive, although I would suggest buyers test the cable connection with slight and gentle movement of the drive/cable to verify that limited motion will not disconnect the drive from the computer.Read more ›
