I bought 3 pairs of these for winter hiking on the AT. We were planning on doing the northern most stretch of PA and knew there would be a ton of snow on the ridge. Well, needless to say there was about 3ft of snow and we were grateful we had snowshoes.
If you've ever been north of Duncannon in PA on the AT you know there's lots of rocks, hence rocksylvania. The company states not to use these on rocks or pavement, which we didn't when we saw bolder fields ahead, but for the little pointy ricks under 2-3 feet of snow, there was no planning. The recommendation is to remove the snowshoes then go over the rocks. That theory doesn't work on the AT.
These snowshoes did work well, but they got very beat up after just 16 miles over two days. I have pictures I'll post. A lot of the metal teeth on the bottom of these came off when the plastic snapped. Also. These are totally plastic, the sides of mine actually have gouges in the plastic where chunks were taken out of them while in use. The price was fantastic as they were on major sale for only $30.
Also, I bought a different pair that looks more traditional but from this company, they seemed to stay on top of the snow better than these ones did.
Overall, my recommendation is that if you can get these on sale they are worth it, but you need to be cautious as to where you are using them. If there's 4-5 feet of snow, it's probably alright, if there are rocks underneath you. If there isn't that much snow these will get beat up quickly.
