Poor Arch Support, Uneven Insole

The new balance 608V2 was the only shoe of the 608 series that provided exceptionally good arch support. The arch support in this shoe is fair at best. The insole feels uneven which makes walking uncomfortable. New Balance brand has lost my patronage due to their persistent decline in product quality.

Ugly but excellent if you're on your feet all day

I'll say up front that I really don't like the way these shoes look. They look like senior citizen shoes, which is how I discovered them, buying them for my mother. It's hard to believe that the same company that made the Minimus line could make something so hideous looking.

However, I'm on my feet all day, on hard surfaces. I have to stand for extended periods of time, indoors, with intermittent walking, climbing ladders and carrying around moderately heavy items. I'm muscular and fit guy, about 6' and 185 pounds. I hate to admit it, but these shoes are the best ones I've found after years of looking for this function. They fit like American sized shoes (assuming an average weight sock, get wider if you're going to wear a heavy duty sock) and are available in extra wide widths. They were comfortable out of the box and really absorb the shock of walking on a hard floor all day. They won't last forever, however, the price is right.

The New Balance 608V4 gets a 1 star rating for ...

The New Balance 608V4 gets a 1 star rating for more ways than one. Those reasons are;
1) Sizing
2) Quality of Materials Used and Workmanship
3) The Foot-Last of the basic Shoe Design compared to (all) my 35 years of being (only) a NB customer.
4) New Balance's lack of Customer Service Response on several occasions about this particular shoe and purchase.

That said; If I was to rate this purchase only on the merit of...ease of purchase, ahead of schedule delivery, ability to return the product due to the inability to wear this shoe for longer than 20min on carpet in my living room, without screaming, I would rate "Amazon.com" 5 Stars for their part in the business transaction. Thank You Amazon.com, as usual for stepping above and beyond the call of duty.
If only New Balance approached a business practice policy that Amazon.com did, this rating would be entirely different.

Whoever makes my next shoes, it won't be New Balance.

For the last 20 years New Balance has been my brand. Every single pair of tennis shoes I have ever owned has been New Balance. I mean that quite literally. Growing up they were the only brand which made shoes in a width I could wear which were available near me. They lasted well, they were comfortable, and they fit me. I have had New Balance shoes shipped to me internationally before simply because I know they will fit. Or I thought I did before I bought this pair.

The last 2 or 3 pairs I have noticed the quality dropping. Each one it took a little less time for the sole to come off, a little less time to wear holes in something. My last pair (624s) the sole fell off after about 6 months. I keep industrial contact cement lying around for that sort of thing, so it doesn't bother me. But then all the edges started fraying, the sole itself started delaminating and stitching started ripping. I've glued the thing back together a few times now, but I never used to have to do this.

But I had some level of loyalty. New Balance was my brand. So I ordered a new pair, MX608V4 this time.

I wear a 12.5 4E. My last pair of New Balance shoes was a 12.5 4E. And the pair before that, and so on into time immemorial (or puberty, but who's counting).

This pair of MX608V4 in US size 12.5 4E was 3/4 inch shorter and 1/2 inch narrower than my previous pair of New Balance 624s in US size 12.5 4E. I know. I took a ruler and checked.

I can't even wear these shoes. If it weren't for Amazon's return policy I'd have ended up with a set of $60 paperweights.

I can't really speak to the build quality since I can't even wear the miserable things to check. But the left insole is fractionally too long for the shoe, so it won't actually sit flat inside the shoe.Read more ›

Don't buy these shoes!!!!

These shoes must be factory rejects. I can't believe how bad these shoes fit! The fabric on top of the shoes across the toes has formed a big hump on one shoe, on the other it has formed a big depression (see the picture). Very odd. And to add insult to injury they SQUEAK when I walk. I've been wearing this same style of New Balance tennis shoes for the past 10 years but if this pair is indicative of the quality control the company uses, then I've bought my last pair from them. I ALWAYS wear a 10 1/2 but for some reason these seem seem to fit big. I'm VERY disappointed.

Uneven Footbed

I don't know if it just happens in my size, but for the last couple of years New Balance shoes have predominantly had uneven footbeds. They have "peaks and valleys" under my foot. This pair had a pronounced dip under the big toe area which made the shoes uncomfortable.

I appreciated the free shipping return and the promptness of my refund.
