I know what you're thinking, and you're absolutely correct! How could I Know That Voice possibly be anything but good with all that talent packed into one film? Well it is not just good, it's educational and highly entertaining. Normally one would have to scour Youtube videos for countless hours watching Comic Con panels and interviews to get what this documentary throws at you in an hour and 36 minutes. This documentary is filled with facts, stories, tidbits, and basically everything else you could possibly want from a feature film about voice acting and all in one place. You want Mel Blanc and June Foray? You got it! You want Tom Kenny and Tara Strong? Done! You get a little taste of the past, present and even what some of the future up-and-coming talents in the industry bring to the table and just what it really means to "Get paid to do what got me in trouble in the 7th grade."

I know that voice is a well done documentary about the voice over business and where it got it's start.
But I have two criticisms with this film. #1. While Mel Blanc and June Foray are definitely worth remembering, there were other popular voices in that era, like Robert C. Bruce or Paul Frees just to name a few. Now, they could have overlooked them for time concerns, but still. #2. When Richard Horvitz talks about how in every documentary, they never go into how the people in the documentaries got famous, just a jump cut and they were famous. Ironically, this film does the exact same thing. They never really go into how these actors got their breaks, with maybe two exceptions. They never got into what they went through, good and bad, that got them to where they are now, again with two exceptions. Those parts may have been cut for time concerns, but... man, the irony. Beyond that, I have no problems, it's an entertaining and informative film with all of my favorites in the mix. What more can you ask for?... Except those 2 things I mentioned, but that's just me. If you love cartoons and/or behind the scenes stuff, this is definitely worth a watch. It's not voice acting 101, but hey, I'll take it. By the way, stick around for the credits, you're in for a treat.

I've been waiting for this for awhile and I can say I was definitely not disappointed. After hearing John DiMaggio talk about this through various podcasts and things, I couldn't wait to see it. Now that its finally out I couldn't be happier. I almost never pay for movies and things, but this is something that I was so excited to see that I just had to. John made this film out of his own pocket and I am thrilled to be able to support him by buying it.

This was an amazing documentary on voice acting!
I love trying to figure out who is the voice that sounds so familiar in that commercial or cartoon & this film gives the viewer much more than a peek into the sound booth of voice acting. It's such a creative medium & full of what I think are "unsung heroes" so to speak -- the stars that don't need to be seen to be famous. You can tell they love their craft & seem to exhibit great kindness to their fellow voice actors. In fact, this film was created to show the amazing people behind the cartoons & video games you love to watch & play! I highly recommend this film if you are interested in becoming a voice actor or if you are like me & just am fascinated by the craft!

If you've ever watched an animated program, you must see I Know That Voice. Although I was a big audiobook fan, I never really thought about the skill and talent required for voice over work until my novels started being produced as audiobooks. With my consciousness raised, I was particularly interested in watching I Know That Voice. I wasn't disappointed.

John DiMaggio, the voice of Futurama, served as Executive Producer with Director Lawrence Shapiro and Producer Tommy Reid. They introduce you to the people behind the well-known voices and guide you through the fascinating world of voice acting.

The documentary is entertaining to the max when you see these ordinary looking people speaking in the voices we've come to know and love in cartoons, animated movies, and video games. Also interviewed are voice agents, casting directors, and producers. All the voice actors featured seem to be one big family with all of them knowing, liking, and admiring each other.

I highly recommend this documentary for its entertainment value as well as the education you'll received from it. It's a part of pop culture that should be recognized and respected.

As a voice over artist, this is one of my favorite films to come out. Am I biased? Hell-to-the-yeah! I love everything about this documentary. I could honestly just listen to this entire thing.

But all geeking out aside, if you are at all even a little bit curious about voice over: watch this. It is extremely interesting to hear the actual actors, directors, and creators talk about the studio process and what really goes on "behind the scenes".

I have always loved cartoons, and for half of my life I have obsessed over the amazing people who brought these characters to life, this is THE show for cartoon fans young and old, and anyone who wants to know about the industry, from those who live it every day, from actors to directors to talent agents, and to see who voices your favorite characters, spanning all the way back to the Classic Looney Tunes and Rocky & Bullwinkle. I loved the story about Mel Blanc, that is pretty amazing. I did not think I could respect that guy more than I already did, but there ya go! I had been waiting so long for this to finally come to be, the YouTube trailers got me so excited for it, and I was beside myself with joy when I got an email from Amazon that it was out. Thank you, John Dimaggio, and everyone who put this together, it was everything I could have hoped for, and more.
