This is a plain 100% cotton mattress cover. The purpose is to stop allergens getting into your mattress. It is not waterproof.

It is possible to weave cotton tightly enough to prevent even dust mites getting through. But, I don't think that this particular cotton cover is so tightly woven. The box doesn't say how many microns thick the holes in the fabric between individual cotton threads are, and on reading the online description, I don't see anything about blocking dust mites - just stuff about blocking dust and dead skin cells from getting to your mattress. The weave of cotton to prevent dust mites getting through has to be significantly tighter and more consistent than the weave to prevent dust getting through. This cover would be a fantastic deal if it were fabric that prevents dust mites passing through, but since it doesn't say what allergens exactly it's blocking, I don't know if it's a good deal or even whose needs it would meet.

This is styled very similar to a fitted sheet, and does not go all the way around the mattress. Competing covers tend to go completely around the mattress and then zip on. Essentially, this is something like a fitted sheet that goes under your mattress pad and regular sheet.

This cover did not come with detailed washing instructions. In general, for an allergy cover, each washing will degrade the quality just a tiny bit so that more allergens can now fit through. In general, you should wash sparingly, and hang dry or tumble dry low. This one just has a label on the cover that says to wash, but didn't come with any care information to indicate that the fabric was specially designed to prevent allergens getting through.Read more ›

I'm not sure how this is different from a sheet. Seems like false advertising to me. I'm also not sure it's organic and treated as organic items should be since it's made in China and they are notorious for spraying things wth chemicals despite organic labels. I gave two stars because it is still as good as s sheet and seems sturdy.

I was pleased with the ease and fit. I was pleased with the comfort as long as a mattress cover (recommend water proof). It was not scratchy and it did not make the crinkling sounds of a plastic-ish type dust mite cover. It is a useful dust mite protector. Following manufacturer's laundry instructions (warm wash...low dry) it shrunk 6 inches in length and would not fit the bed. Amazon was generous and gracious to replace the 2 month old cover. It is great product but depending on the level of dust & dust mite in your bedroom...it may be one of those products you may have to replace at full cost every six months. I will purchase again at the end of summer. I have a sleep number and an encasement will not fit PLUS I do not like the feel of those fabrics. Actually 3 1/2 stars.

This is exactly what I needed! It is a thin barrier between us and mattress, that is breathable and washable, and not full of mystery fluff, and doesn't feel like sleeping on plastic wrap! It is exactly like a fitted sheet, but the point of it is to prevent skin cells, pollen etc from entering our mattress and feeding dust mites. On manufacturers website they state it filters 5-9 micron particles, so even if dust mites are present they cannot reach you. It is not an encapsulation, which was excellent for us since it is impossible to lift our 300 lb latex mattress. The only star I ding it is because it does not state organic on the tag, so I have to assume it isn't, or they made a major typo. So there's that. (And Fyi: we wanted non-waterproof so we could wash it at home- our new "smart" He washer stated washing waterproof items would void the warranty! So anyone with a newer washer, read your manuals to avoid them wriggling out of repairs! Consumers need to stick together.)

I think the product advertised is misleading... not sure if it would protect from allergens very well since it's basically a tightly woven cotton fitted sheet. There's no protection over the bottom of the mattress. I'm hoping the return process goes smoothly.

I was rather surprised by the Allerease Naturals fitted mattress cover when it arrived. I was seriously expecting something in the line of a mattress pad rather than a sheet-like cover. It’s not a mattress pad, but rather a cover that goes UNDER the mattress pad for added protection. My hesitant surprise turned to pleasure once I figured out the intent of the Allerease. It just adds that one extra layer so many allergy sufferers like me need.

Whatever mattress pad you select will go on over the Allerease cover. If you have an encasement, you probably won’t need one. If you have one of those terry cloth mattress pads it will go over the cover. I’m not particularly obsessive about dust mites, but I do know they factor into triggering my allergies and asthma. It’s very highly recommended by allergists that you use medical-grade pillow protectors and mattress covers, but this cover is a bonus.

The Allerease cover is very densely woven and yes, it feel like a sheet. It does act like a fitted sheet and has what’s called “deep pockets.” It will fit those larger mattresses that are thick and need deeper sheets and pads. The queen-sized one is 60” x 80” (152cm x 203cm). It’s exactly like a fitted sheet right down to the 3/8” elasticized band.

The material is 100% organic cotton and can be washed in warm, dried on low. It has wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles. If you can’t stand that and don’t like to iron, nor like anything made in China, simply take a pass. I only have one organic piece of clothing and have fallen in love with the soft natural fibers. The Allerease is naturally hypoallergenic and will, in addition to a decent mattress pad, keep the dust mite population at bay. After my initial surprise, I decided I do love the concept of an organic mattress cover. Just a bit of added protection to keep the allergens at bay.
