This design has been around for decades and while it had the cool factor initially the design has been around so long the cool factor has worn off a little. One problem with the early systems was the sound was atrocious. Because of my past experiences I approached DK-KP82P with lowered expectations not to mention my past experience with other Sharp mini systems which can be hit or miss, some good and some bad.

While I gave the system 4 stars I like it a lot and you could almost say my rating is 4 1/2 stars. All the functions work flawlessly but what really impressed me was the sound with my only real negative being the bass lacks a little at lower volumes but this may have more to do with my middle aged ears. The bass was great at medium to higher volumes. The mids and highs were very dynamic at all volumes. My only other minor negative was the radio reception could be a little better.

Great desktop system! Was especially impressed with the quality and clarity of the sound at higher volumes which in past decades is where this design faltered but not anymore. Highly recommended.

Very nice unit. Black with a gloss finish and features that give this unit a lot of bang for the buck.
First of all is the great reception for the radio for all those who love FM.
Then there is the connection for an IPhone and a stand for an IPad/ Will hold other kinds of Pads as well
This is not blue tooth but for those of us not at that level of tech it has features that are much needed
For example a line for using a wire base for MP3 players and other kinds of Pads.
THe unit also has a vertical cd player with sleek polished black plastic doors that smoothly open and close.
It comes with a remote control that handles all the functions.
You can also use headphones for a more private listening experience.
Want a more modern look. Then you can hang this on the wall.
I am ecstatic over this lovely unit with its bass boost and base and treble control.
This is one product I would joyfully suggest to all my music loving friends both those with IPads and those like me who went with a different manufacturer,
Very Pleased

I just got it and it seems to be working fine. I don't know how reliable it is. Time will show. What I really wanted to mention is the dock connection. It is for Iphone 5 and above. So no 30 pin connector.

Yes, you can connect Iphone 4 and other 30 pin idevices but only via usb port on the top of the system. If you plan to dock you Iphone 4 or 4s directly, it won't work.

Sound is so so.

I LOVE to listen to music while I'm doing housework, and I'd been on the lookout for a replacement for my 20 year old CD 'boombox' for sometime - this was the perfect choice!! I've also recently switched from an android phone to an iPhone 5C, so the fact that this system would play music from my phone was a big plus.

The sound is terrific - much better than both my old boombox and my phone on its own. (And the phone sound by itself was already an upgrade from my previous phone!) I'm not a serious sound expert or anything, but everything sounds GOOD and like I expect it to sound. I was listening to some old 80's songs that I had previously listened to on my old boombox, and had just assumed I was tired of them because on my old boombox they just didn't sound very exciting any more. But popping them in this system WOW! They sound so much better now!!

Mostly I have used the CD player for audiobooks from the library, and the phone dock for iTunes radio and my music. Both work just fine - I guess some older versions of this had problems with the CD player, but they seem to be all straightened out now. I have not really used this to listen to FM radio, sorry. Since I use this in the kitchen, I was also pleased that it is mostly smooth plastic, no unnecessary design elements that make it hard to clean. The manual buttons in the back are small and a little tucked away, they might be a little hard to clean if they get dirty, but since they are not front & center they are not likely to be affected by a spill or something like that, just a little normal dust. That's what compressed air is for :-)

My only complaints - the instruction manual is a fold out one sheet, very thin paper, like a big thin paper map.

I set this up in the living room and left it. I come back an hour later and my 10yr old daughter was already playing CD's and music from her MP3 player. In other words, the device is fairly intuitive and easy to use.

Something I wasn't aware of when selecting this product is it also has instructions for wall-mounting. Mounting screws are not provided, but a paper template is provided, which makes installation easier. Though you don't have to mount it, as it will sit nicely on a shelf somewhere.

At first I was disappointed in the description that said it was only for iPhone 5 and something for iPhone 4 and ipod. Don't they know that i-devices are only a "small" part of the device market?

Once I opened the manual it states this player should work with:
iPhone 3G through iPhone 5
iPad through iPad 3
iPod touch 1 through iPod touch 5
iPod classic
iPod nano 2 through iPod nano 7

Most of these devices simply use their normal USB charging cable. You need to remove the cover/plug from the USB slot on this player before you can use the USB connector. With an i-device you can use the remote to control songs and folders. My iPhone 3GS worked fine!!

I took a regular USB stick from my PC desktop and put some MP3 songs on it. This too played fine!! Thus not limiting me to a device brand.

The AUX IN port worked with my Android devices and other MP3 players. . .I just needed to provide my own male-to-male AUX cable. Also the volume set to 12 for CD was nice and loud, but when I plugged my Samsung Galaxy III phone into the AUX IN cable the same volume setting was near impossible to hear and I had to crank it up. I need to track down another AUX cable to make sure that isn't the problem.
