These are great photo frames. I have five in total an 18”, 15”, and three 12”. I have been looking at the NIX models that had motion sense for a long time, but held off due to them not having web connection which would require me to manually update the sd or usb thumbdrive for each frame. I bought my parents a Kodak pulse a few years back and loved how that worked with the motion and sound but Kodak never expanded to larger sizes and went bankrupt… This set me up to for the features that I wanted. I feel that the frames with only time scheduled turn on and off are still wasting a ton of electricity and are not smart enough. NIX/NIXplay is the best option I have found and the sizes of the screens and prices are awesome to boot. I will likely setup a second account to gift to parents and grandparents and still control their frames.

So the motion sensors work really well detecting you and the images start displaying fast after a brief message about number of new photos. You can set the frames up to display newly added photos first before going into the rest of the slide shows. I really like this as they are new it’s nice to see them right away. You can have these keep jumping line for a day up to a week which is also nice.

So a common thought before I got the frame is if I could remove the peg leg support on the back. Yes you can and there are mounting screw holes.

Each screen comes with its own IR remote. They are all the same frequency and will control all screens that see signal at once. This can be awesome or slightly annoying depending on what you are doing. There are also buttons on the back of the frame or just hold remote near sensor if you only want the one frame to respond.

Well I'll start by saying I love the concept of using the cloud as the source for photos. Super easy to send a picture from your Android phone to a frame or multiple frames if you have relatives around the country with these frames...you just email it from your phone using the Nixplay App to their frame or yours. Fun at parties for sure!

Also easy to send pics to the frame from your flickr, facebook, Picasa, or Instagram and of course you can put a memory stick or SD card in if you don't want to mess with the web. BUT and this is a big but, the 16:9 format of the 18.5 frame is far from ideal. Your horizontal pictures will look ok but the tops and bottoms will be cut off. And vertical pictures look terrible - as in tiny. They essentially shrink to less than an 8 x 10. You can change the setting on the frame to "fill screen" but then the verticals display as horizontal losing half the image. My last digital photo frame was a typical 4:3 ratio which is what your camera shoots - 16:9 is the current video format, too narrow to ideally display stills in my view. I should say the smaller frames they make DO come in the 4:3 ratio.

UPDATE: Nixplay did a software update today (10/29/14) which addressed two of my complaints - One, they added flickr as a source of photos AND you can now set the frame to turn on and off at preset times automatically. They also addressed another complaint that is not being able to shuffle the photos - ie instead of having them play in the exact same order all the time you can now randomize the order.

Support from the company has been great, very responsive...

My wife and I have a few other email/wifi picture frames, but none of them compare to this one. We have bought several of the 10" ones (another brand) as gifts, but we LOVE having this giant 18" frame for us. We have it on our mantel, and it is quite an eye-catcher with these vibrant pictures rotating through. It is very easy to set up, and extremely easy to manage. If you spend a little time setting it up, it can basically keep itself organized even with multiple frames (emails from different people automatically go to certain playlists which in turn go to the appropriate frames). These frames are great as gifts (especially for grandparents). It makes it so easy for all of the kids to send pictures so the grandparents always have a fresh look at what's going on with their kids/grandkids.

The frame is 'bricked'. I opened the box; powered it up; connected to wifi. The frame downloaded some kind of software/update package and restarted. It is now 'bricked' . It won't pair. When I attempt to activate the frame on the vendor website I get "your frame is not connected". None of the remote control or internal buttons will work. The frame just displays a continuous instruction that says "restart"..when that "restart" icon is selected it directs me to pair the frame using the website. The company does not have a user's manual on their support website for this frame, which as far as I can tell is the largest and most expensive. Most of the company's knowledge base on their website appears to refer to the "non-wifi" versions of the frames. When you search the support pages with this model number, there are only two 'hits' with no useful information at all for my situation. No live online support; no telephone support.
