When my wife and I got married, we registered for (and received) a really fancy/expensive cookware set. It was shiny and not Teflon-coated. It looked really awesome. I imagine if we had hung it from a rack and never used it, it would still look awesome. But the truth is that it quickly became scuffed up from use, and is hard to cook on (as a novice) without sticking, etc. We found ourselves buying supplemental skillets and pots to "fill the void" of what our expensive set just wasn't right for.

So let's be honest... if you're a professional chef or 'foodie', you're likely not looking for a sub-$100 cookware set. So I don't see any need for comparisons here. But if you are someone who is looking for an "every day" cookware set, or a decent quality "starter" set, this is a great place to start! The T-fal C912SE74 "Excite" set boasts several convenient features:

- Nonstick: It generally is. Cooking bacon and eggs, I did not have any issues with the bacon. Eggs clung a little bit, but I likely had the pan too hot.
- Dishwasher Safe: So far, this cookware has gone into and come out of the dishwasher clean and without any issues
- Oven Safe: This is a bit of a misnomer. The instructions actually advise NOT to use it in the oven (it's not bakeware), but as long as you do and the oven is lower than 350°, I guess you'll be OK. So not for cooking, but if you wanted to slide a skillet into a warm (NOT hot) oven to keep the contents warm, it should be OK.
- PFOA Free: 'PFOA' is "perfluorooctanoic acid". It is a toxicant and carcinogen in animals. If you are using Teflon (PTFE) cookware, you should definitely ensure it is PFOA free. You do NOT want to eat this stuff.Read more ›

This is a great "starter set" for anyone. To my surprise the pots and frying pans are stainless steel with a solid weight to them and are not as light as you would expect from a set that includes 14 pieces for well under a hundred dollars. In addition to the weight of the pans it seems TFal actually put some thought into the design. They are a great glossy cherry red and the handles, like the pots, are thick and are contoured ergonomically for a comfortable easy fit. The handles for the 5-qt covered Dutch oven are an interesting design in that they are thick with a good size hole in the middle for a secure hold. Really nice and they worked well when draining pasta and making homemade broths. And I can't forget the tiny frying pan :)) that comes with this set for melting butter or cooking one egg, etc.

The glass lids fit well and have a tiny steamer hold encircled by metal to allow the lid to stay on and not boil over if the pot heats up too much (think rice). The two frying pan handles are long giving them a more professional look. The pans include T-Fal’s Thermo-Spot indicator, which is supposed to show when a pan is “perfectly preheated", however I saw no change in the red dot when I used them and from everything I've read about non-stick coatings its a big no-no to heat pans up empty in that they emit certain toxic gasses.

All in all our family definitely likes them, they look great, cooked well with no sticking, and were easy to wash. Although they are dishwasher safe this is not something I would put in a dishwasher. They can also be used in an oven up to 350 degrees but I'll pass on that with non-stick surfaces.

These are really nice! super easy to clean and the color really pops. I don't understand why anyone would put this in the dishwasher it takes less than a minute to clean them. even things like scrambled eggs or oatmeal or chowder seem to come right out when washed with hot water. I've had no problems with the colors shipping or fading or any kind of damage. I use them on a gas stove and I ensure that the flames do not lick up over the side of the pot just like it says in the directions and I hand wash in hot water and there's never been an issue with them at all they are phenomenal.

Great quality for the price! Not too thin and cooks evenly. Survived me falling asleep on the couch while trying to boil an egg... Was nothing left but burnt eggshell fragments... NO water, NO insides of the egg.... but the pan cleaned out just as easily as normal and left no damage to the inside of the pot! Sadly, the purple outside looks ever so slightly charred but can't blame anyone but myself for that... The inside of the pan is still like new! NO chipping from any of them yet, a good 6 months in with heavy use

What a pretty and practical cookware set this is--love the deep red color! The T-fal C912SE74 Excite Nonstick Dishwasher Safe/Oven Safe PFOA Free Cookware Set,14-Piece,Red is best suited for light to medium-duty cooking. These are aluminum pans with non-stick coating--follow the manufacturer's directions for cooking temperatures and clean-up for best results. The handles are just the right length and thickness to allow a sure grip when holding the pans. This set includes a 5-qt covered Dutch oven, a 2-qt covered saucepan, a 1-qt covered saucepan, a 10-in covered skillet, an 8-in open skillet, and the open, mini "One Egg Wonder" fry pan. My issue with the labeling: While the set is labeled as "14 pieces", only 10 pieces are actual cookware--the other 4 pieces are the 4 spoons in the measuring set. A better choice to include with the cookware set would be a spatula, stirring spoon, slotted spoon and whisk or other tools which are safe for non-stick cookware. A 4-piece measuring spoon set should be indicated as "free" or "bonus". I would recommend cooking temperatures lower than you normally use due to the non-stick coated aluminum. The "Thermo-Spot" heat indicator may work well for some, but I don't find it necessary. The manufacturer states that the pans are dishwasher safe and oven safe up to 350 degrees. The clean-up is easy, but I will not be putting these pans in the oven at any temperature. Overall, this is a functional, attractive cookware set that should inspire you to try new recipes and cooking techniques. I have to say this about the packaging: These pans were packed together in a very compact and secure manner in a fairly sturdy box. This set of pans would make a nice gift, either for starter cooks, or for 1 or 2-person households.Read more ›
