Directions

I've used the non-icy fresh version for about a year. I liked the whitening but not the taste of the original flavor. It tasted kind of burned to me sometimes. The Icy fresh has a much more pleasant taste for me. A good start.

Colgate Optic White makes some serious claims about whitening and I think they are a bit overstated. Over the last year what I've learned is surface or near surface stains can be removed, reduced or prevented by using Optic White twice a day. I'm thinking of tea, blackberries, coffee. Those things we know stain teeth.

I can say the whiteness of my teeth has improved, but they aren't the white of my youth. It's a fairly subtle change for me. Your mileage may vary. In my case I think my teeth have some of the internal discoloration of age and it will take a visit to the a cosmetic dentist to get youthfully white teeth again.

Other than the whitening properties I think Colgate Optic White cleans about like any other major brand toothpaste I've tried. It contains Laurel Sulfate which provides the ample foaming that is common among many toothpaste brands as the the saccharin it contains to make it very sweet tasting. I have friends who have trouble with these common ingredients. it seems my friend has learned that Laurel sulfate can cause excessive gum bleeding in some people (her in particular). With any toothpaste it's good to read the label!

So what's the bottom line for Colgate Optic White? In my experience it can remove or reduce some stains, but not deep ones. The original flavor can sometimes taste kind of "burned" but the icy fresh flavor is much more palatable. Outside of stain removal it seems a pretty usual big-brand toothpaste.

It gets 4 stars from me. I'm not writing home about Colgate Icy Fresh, but I'm reasonably happy with it.

We wanted to use this product everyday, twice a day for a while, before reviewing. For several years we used other brands of toothpaste, most of the time, Crest. In comparison to using Crest, we see a difference in stain removal, and Colgate Optic whitens faster, and better.

I drink a great deal of coffee and tea, and my daughter drinks a lot of tea. Coffee and tea are known to stain, and using this product twice a day as recommended, does the trick. Prior to using this product, we were brushing more frequently to get rid of stains, but still were not completely satisfied. Now, we brush less, and Colgate Optic whitens teeth faster.

In addition, the Icy Fresh is a cool, refreshing taste, and not too harsh. This product is also gentle on the teeth, and gums. Excellent product, reasonable price for good quality. We will continue to use this product. Highly recommended.

I usually use Rembrandt Intense Whitening toothpaste, but thought that I would give this one a try.
My big complaint is that it the menthol/mint flavor is so intense that it made the inside of my mouth
burn. Maybe it's me, but I just couldn't continue to use this product without the burning sensation.
I can't recommend this toothpaste.

After a week my teeth weren't white. After 2 weeks I wondered if I kind of noticed a difference but there is definitely no definite whitening action.

Which is too bad because I really suffered using this toothpaste. I don't know if burning like fire is supposed to make me feel like it is working. But this is just burns. My lips hurt. My mouth hurts. My tongue is not speaking to me. There is a point where mint goes from "refreshing" to "chemical weapon". I think Colgate missed that line.

If you are an actor and need to cry for a role, I suggest this toothpaste. But if you like your mouth find something else.

I liked the gentle, non-abrasive quality of the sample of Colgate Optic White Toothpaste (Icy Fresh flavor) that I received. Too often a toothpaste that claims extraordinary cleaning or whitening abilities means you're getting a product with a gritty, sandy quality. Not so here-- this has a creamy, pleasant texture. I also liked the "Icy Fresh" flavor, which was bracing and invigorating (a nice thing in the morning when you're trying to become awake and alert for your day), but not so much that it burned my mouth or made my eyes water.

As far as the whitening claims made by the product, well, let's just say I think I've seen some subtle improvement. But definitely nothing dramatic after a few weeks of use. But that's okay, I wasn't expecting miracles, and this toothpaste is fine otherwise. I'll report back later in the comments section if this product eventually kicks into high gear and my smile becomes super dazzling. Until then, this is a perfectly fine toothpaste for cleaning your teeth and making your mouth taste fresh.

Let me preface by saying that I have EXTREMELY sensitive teeth. I once used a Crest White Strip and was left in tears. Even on a routine of Sensodyne, my teeth shriek against ice cream and cold foods. So.. I'm probably a minority out there, but if you're like me, beware as you might have similar experiences.

Anyway the toothpaste itself is great - nice minty flavor, good clean feeling - but after just a few brushes my teeth had a constant pain that I was all too familiar with from my Crest White Strip days. The pain was not severe but it was constant and extremely annoying. I was afraid it would start to get worse so I stopped using the toothpaste.

OVERALL: This is not your average whitening toothpaste. It is very strong and may lead to discomfort if you have sensitive teeth. If you do not have sensitive teeth, it's probably worth trying as it seems to be very powerful. The paste itself is minty, fresh and clean and I was very happy with it.
