I am a professional videographer, i own two sennheiser wireless G2 sets for client work, but for my personal stuff i have always desired a smaller, simpler system. I stumbled across this system and started digging, could it be what i was looking for? The reviews around the net are mostly positive, and i caught a nice open box deal on a set and grabbed it. The outcome? I'm very much liking it! Here's my thoughts:

-The set is wonderfully small, both units could fit in the same space as 1 G2 pack
-Bluetooth is compressed, thus the audio is compressed, but for many uses i think it sounds very good.
-The built in mic works quite well, and plugging in a lavaliere works as expected
-LOTS of handling noise if you use the built in mic, be careful of anything rubbing where you mount it or just use a lav plug in.
-Range is fine, claims 164ft, i have tested it to be reliable much shorter than that, but i mostly only need 20ft tops.
-uses AAA batteries and they last a few hours each, works great for my needs.
-I have tinkered with the 2 way communications functionality, but doubt i will actually use it.
-Canon make a seemingly identical unit, would love to figure out if they are in fact identical.
-Comes with an odd windscreen that does work, but is just peculiar and makes the pack look even bigger if you use it directly on talent.
-As far as i can tell, you CANNOT pair directly with another bluetooth enabled device, you must use the transmitter/receiver together.
-Be sure to plug them in correctly, the top are both mic ports, the sides are both headphones/camera out ports. If something's not working, double check this!Read more ›

Bought this to use with my Canon Vixia HFR52 camcorder. The Canon version of this appeared identical to this, but cost a lot more, so I bought the Sony-branded version, confident that it would be compatible with the Canon Vixia. Yep - works beautifully. Some folks have said it goes through the AAA batteries is uses very fast - that's not been my experience. I've probably used my Canon Vixia with this mic system for about five hours of recording now, and the EverReady Lithium batteries in both the transmitter and receiver are still going strong. The mic works best when it's within about two feet of the speaker, so clipping it to the lapel of the speaker is a good idea. I have, however, successfully just placed it on the podium used by the speaker and as long as they're standing at the podium the sound is quite good. No problems working with the mic/receiver at a range of 70 feet. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this, and regard it as an essential accessory to my digital camcorder.

I don't usually give 5 stars to products, but there are exceptions. We tested the Sony ECM-AW4 Wireless Bluetooth Microphones to improve the audio quality of presenters and speeches when recorded on iPad video. After reading tons of reviews for other products, and trying another product, too, we are completely pleased with this unit and ordering more. Not only did the audio quality for the iPad video exceed our expectations, but the microphones are compact and lightweight (we travel a lot). The units store in a bag that comes in the package for easy packing for the workshops we give around North America. For recording devices such as an iPad, you MUST also order a Y-style Headset Splitter adapter. Carry some extra AAA batteries, plug the receiver to the iPad (or iPhone, or other video camera of your choice), turn them on and the audio is great. I tested this for an inside-the-building range of 60 feet with no problems.

PROS: Compact. Lightweight. Uses standard AAA batteries. Fast pairing between microphone and receiver. Clip is versatile with strong enough spring to attach to clothing or a lanyard. Good Carotid microphone range. Wireless!

CONS: Won't directly connect to Bluetooth on the iOS device. Needs a headset splitter adapter for microphone connection to iPad/iPhone/iPod. Must carry spare batteries. Not sturdy enough for "heavy" action with bumps and drops. Multi-language instruction manuals weigh more than the device!

After looking at many wireless mikes in this range of prices, I decided on this Sony product. There were several salient factors, one of the most important to me was that these mikes could be used with a range of other devices, my Nikon DSLR's, digital recorders, PA systems, etc., as well as my Sony camcorder, which is what I need it for most often. The fact that it has a standard mike socket/plug instead of some funky proprietary connection made a lot of sense to me. Since I do a lot of my video recording outdoors, the ability to place the mike out of the wind, away from the camera, on the podium or carried by a narrator, instead of having to rely on the camera's built-in mikes was important in my decision. I have not had the opportunity to use this in a 'real life' situation yet, only having received my units a week or so ago... (Side note here, I did not get this from Amazon, but did buy a new unopened unit.)
The many reviews and comments on Amazon were very helpful in making my purchase, it's always good to know what other's experiences have been, the pros and cons they have learned about and the results that have been achieved. Thanks for all the helpful inputs...!
I have noted a few comments about the 3 hour battery life, so I'll keep those in mind. I try to start each of my projects with fresh or newly recharged batteries in ALL of the devices that I will be using. It's false economy to try to stretch an extra hour's life out of a used battery and take the risk of ruining a great recording by having a dead battery. I think I might use Lithium cells if I have ANY thoughts of longer photo shoots and I ALWAYS carry spare AA's, AAA's and extra rechargeable batteries for my camera(s)...!
