This thing is a little bit fiddly, but if you really want ice balls, it's worth it. Why exactly I wanted ice balls, I don't actually know, but it's probably the same reason I wanted the silicone "perfect ice cube" makers I also bought. And you know what? High quality ice shapes do improve my life enough, in an oddly tangible intangible way, to justify their purchase, in my humble opinion. There is something so depressing about those ice trapezoids, rhomboids, whatever they are, that come from off-white plastic trays leaching pthalates into what is surely chlorinated, fluoridated tap water. No, a beverage with some dignity deserves better in form as well as in content.

The way these work is with a lid, which must be held down with water before the spherical cavities are filled through their respective narrow apertures. The smart way to do it is to save the frozen top part from batch to batch. ;^)

These do take a little doing to fill and get apart, which is really the only downside. If you're really seriously weak, utterly uncoordinated, or constantly busy, you might not like the time or effort required to make ice spheres. And they don't look as perfect in real life as they do in the pretty product photos that are probably actually of glass spheres or something... There's always a seam at the mold halves, and a sprue on top unless you get the level precisely right, which is impossible in any case because it changes while it freezes, although perhaps by iterations of measurement it could be done... If you really want to get them perfect, I guess you could polish them briskly with a damp lint-free cloth or something, but then you'd look batsh!t insane, polishing your ice balls like Bowie, if anyone remembers Labyrinth... Ahem.

The Ice Ball Maker was easy to use. Just fill the bottom of the Ice Ball Maker with water. I had to try it a few times to judge how much water to put. But, after a few trial and errors, things went smoothly.

Take the top and match up the little groves on the side. Next press the top down slowly onto the bottom, which is holding the water. By pressing the top down inside the bottom, it pushes the water up into the top half of the ball shapes. Then just stick in the freezer.

After they have had time to freeze, remove and take the top off. And there you have them! The ice balls release easily and are ready for use in a variety of drinks.

They look very pretty in a glass and last longer than regular ice, which helps in not watering down your drink. While I use mine mostly in iced tea and juice, they can be used in a variety of drinks. They are perfect for entertaining and make great looking party drinks! Everyone will want to know how you got the perfectly round ice that isn't watering their drinks down!

My next idea to try them with is fruit juice! I think they would make a great frozen fruit pop. The top tray has a little hole that a popsicle stick can be inserted in. How cool would that be for a summer treat?! The possibilities are endless! The Ice Ball Maker works great and is loads of fun to use!

I found the ice ball mold to be of nice quality. The ice ball mold was very easy to pop off the ice balls when it was done freezing. Cleaning the mold was also a snap! I had a little trouble figuring out how high to fill the mold, but otherwise this mold was great. I think with a little practice it will make the perfect ice ball. If you are looking to put a new twist on your cocktails, punches, or summer drinks give them a try!

Having tried several different ice ball molds this one has come out on top as my mold of choice. The silicone rubber is heavier than others I have tried and it seems to create a more uniform ice-ball that is still easy to remove from the mold. The small nipple of ice is easily chipped off with the edge of a spoon while still in the bottom half of the mold. The 1.75 inch size has proven to be almost ideal for smaller whiskey and rocks glasses. Although the mold directions indicate a fill mark it isn't visible which is the only drawback. I measured the amount of water it took to make a near perfect ball and it comes out to about 165 ml for anyone who cares to try and make the perfect sphere. To get a clearer ice ball I use the standard method of heating distilled water to a low simmer for about ten min to remove dissolved air from the water. Whether you choose to use to go the long route to make clear ice for a party or just freeze distilled or drinking water for yourself, the ice spheres from these molds keep a beverage cold longer. Great for Scotch or Bourbon.

I really like this. Washed it and started using immediately. My husband likes to have a small drink sometimes and this is just perfect. I must admit I have been making them and transferring to a plastic bag so I can have plenty.

Upfront, I received this ice BALL maker at no cost in exchange for an honest review.Upfront, I received this ice cube tray at no cost in exchange for an honest review.

PRO:
* FAST ship!
* Easy to use, fill to the line (leaving a little bit of a gap), freeze, flex and remove!
* Stood up on its own in the freezer on a rack
* Ice tray is flexible and ice spheres pop out with a push on the bottom
* Nice size ice spheres! Larger than normal ice cubes!
* My husband loves them for his bourbon
* I love them because they last longer than regular ice cubes, and I use them for special drinks for adults or kids (kids love these)
* The ice cubes look great
* Spherical shape looks more fancy
* Fits just about any cup.
* Freezes fast, about 4 hours
* Reusable, Dishwasher safe, Flexible, BPA free
* Doesn't leak, holds water great, walls are of good thickness
* Lifetime guarantee
* Ice tastes as good as the water you put into it, silicone does NOT lend any flavor to the ice
* You get ONE tray (4 spheres total) for $8.88 at the time of this review, I would highly recommend getting TWO for $12.67, as you will like these
* Expansion holes in the top lend themselves to ICE CREAM POPS! Freeze ice cream in them with a stick, or make popsicles for the kids!

TO NOTE:

* HELPFUL HINTS FOR CLEAR SPHERES: Use distilled water, boil water and cool, then use this in the tray, for a more clearer ice. (** FOR THE PHOTOS, I DID NOT DO THIS, the ice was made with plain tap water**)

* Get fancy! When making clear ice, before adding water, add to the tray a sprig of mint, an eatable flower, berries, fruit etc... you'll have show stopping cubes to be proud of!
