Color: Gold-plated HDMI to VGA Converter Adapter
This adapter by VicTsing allows you to convert the video portion of the digital HDMI signal to an analog VGA signal. For me, the main use for an adapter like this is for connecting laptops and other digital sources to an older project that only has analog VGA input. And I can confirm that the adapter works as advertised. I was able to hook up a VGA projector to my Sony VAIO Z and Toshiba laptops without any problem. Both systems running Windows 8.1 were able to recognize the project as a secondary monitor, and I had all the options available of mirroring the displays, limit to one or the other display, or extend the display area across the two devices. I even found an old Sony FD Trinitron monitor to test, and I was able to hook it up to my laptops without any issue.
The only hiccup that you will have to keep in mind is that you’ll have configure the sound output from your digital source to reroute it from the HDMI port. This is because the VGA connection is video only. So if you need sound, you’ll have to manually configure your source to output it via another channel.
All in all, this is a solid adapter that does exactly what it says. The price point is a bit steep. I guess that’s from its relatively rare application.

Color: Gold-plated HDMI to VGA Converter Adapter
In the interests of full disclosure, I received a free sample of the product in return for an honest and unbiased review. This s a very handy little device if you need to display output from a modern laptop or other such HDMI enabled device onto a old VGA input TV or projector or, indeed, if input ports are limited and you need to display from multiple sources.
This little adapter has a male HDMI input and a female VGA output connection so you will need a standard female – female VGA cable to connect it to your TV or projector. Given that I do not have a modern laptop I had to be a bit inventive. Fortunately I have an HDMI switch and various cabled so that I could test the converter with both cameras and the blu-ray player displaying onto our 42 inch TV via the VGA input. I was amazed at the results. The still pictures and HD video playback from the cameras was excellent but I was expecting to see some degradation in the blu-ray resolution. I was wrong; I could no see any difference in resolution between the display through the converter and via the direct HDMI connection although the colours were subtly and minutely different.
Although it is something that I will probably not use very often, it is the kind of thing it is always handy to have. It is compact, robust and works perfectly. Who could ask for more?
