The controller and buttons feel good, but there are some glaring flaws that were dealbreakers for me.

Pros:

Feels like a normal N64 Controller.
USB is convenient.

Cons:

The stick seems to be binary in its positions; you are either in the center or all the way at the edge. This means that if you were to push the stick slightly or part way it would be the same as if you pushed it all the way to the edge. You would normally expect the controller/game to respond incrementally depending on how far you move the stick out from the center.

The stick and directional pad (left) share the same input. Pressing up on the pad is the same as pushing the stick forward. Therefore, you can't map them separately. The may not be a big deal for the many games that don't use the control pad, or use the pad and not the stick, but is a problem otherwise.

There is no rumble feature and you can't plug in a rumble pack or memory pack into the controller.

Moving forward I think I'll just get a controller adapter and use a real N64 controller with it.

Ordered 2. First one was perfect, second controller has joystick problems it can't go down-left or down-right. It's not a huge problem on some games, but for many it makes the game frustrating. I would love to give a good review but only 50% of my product was satisfactory.

Works well. I got this and a Retro Link controller at the same time. The analog is a little stiff on this one compared to the RL but I'm sure will wear in with time. Where this controller shines over the RL though is the combo directions on the joystick (down-right, up-left etc). This controller detects the diagonal directions far better the the RL version, so for me it works much better for FPS games like Goldeneye.

The one issue I have with both brands of controller are that the joysticks don't have progressive sensitivity. They are either off or 100% on, meaning in games like Mario 64 you can't really slowly walk around but rather run everywhere. While this is slightly annoying, it's certainly not a deal breaker and you get used to it very quickly, but it is worth noting.

Also, this is plug and play with Windows 8.1. Plug it in, map the buttons in Project64 or the emulator of your choosing and you're good to go. I saw other reviewers claim that this is not compatible with Windows 8, but I've had no problems. Maybe those reviewers don't have the proper plugins setup with their emulators?

joystick is ok, not very precise, but good enough to play mario kart with no problems! Aiming games (ex: 007) though would be tough, but doable. The left D-pad (arrow keys) are also a bit cheap. Sometimes its hard to get just one of the D-pad arrows to register at a time. Ie; you press left and it gives you down too.

Overall, good purchase, I would buy again. I own 4 of these for Mario Kart on a Raspberry Pi 2 running RetroPie.---4 player works!

Bought this to run N64 games on an portable emulation station I built using Raspberry Pi. Controller is exactly the same as the N64 controllers I own. No Nintendo logo on the top of the controller as expected. Buttons were a bit stiff but I expect this to clear up after use. Wasn't simply plug and play as I hoped, the N64 controller apparently is very unique. But after a quick google search I was easily able to configure the controller. This is a symptom of the N64 controller not this brand. Price seems right for this product. Would recommend again.

I chose this one over similar products mostly because of Mr. Cossins' review that the analog stick actually had analog sensitivity rather than being always off or always on. Apparently Mr. Cossins was shipped a different product than I was. I bought two of these, and the sticks are either all off or all on. I tried it with the default Windows driver (7), the driver that came with the sticks, and both the Jabo and NRage controller plugins on Project64. I tried fiddling with the range and the dead zone. Nothing. It was either all off or all on, Mario was either running or standing still, the Kart was either steering hard or not at all. (With a low enough range, it became either walking or standing still, but still no progressive sensitivity.) If anyone else has gotten this product to work with progressive sensitivity, I would like to know how.

I went to Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> Generic USB Joystick (which is how it came up) -> Game Controller Settings -> Properties, and when I push the stick, or calibrate it, it is still either all off or all on, which makes me think that a different version of PJ64 or NRage probably won't change anything. Furthermore, when I try to set up the controller with a NES or SNES emulator, or with PJ64 for that matter, the D-pad and the analog stick are seen as exactly the same by the software, suggesting even further that there is no progressive sensitivity built in to this product.

The reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1 is because it works okay when emulating systems that don't have progressive sensitivity to begin with (SNES, for example), although diagonals on this D-pad are really sticky, and up-right in particular requires pressing really hard.
