Thought I couldn't miss with all the 5-star reviews, but no one mentioned that the "slip resistant" feet are actually made out of hard plastic, not rubber. They slipped all over the porcelain tiles on our kitchen floor. Thought maybe I could just pull the feet off and replace them with rubber end caps, but no -- they're riveted on! Fortunately, the rivets are the standard cheap, made in China crap, so I slit each plastic "foot" with a razor knife, peeled them back, and used a pair of flush-cut wire cutters to snip off the rivets. Jammed on some plain rubber end caps from our local hardware store -- $0.50 each -- and after all that, I FINALLY had a step stool that would have earned a 5-star review.

Sorry if I'm being picky, but I bought this darn thing so I wouldn't have to worry about my vertically challenged wife balancing on a wooden chair to reach something from the top shelves in our kitchen. Maybe if you're planning to use it on concrete or carpet, it will work straight out of the box. On tile or hardwood, though, beware -- it's going to slide. Kind of misses the point, especially when it explicitly advertises "slip resistant" feet.

Anyway, other than that it seems pretty well made and well designed, with a nice stable base, easy to fold and unfold. Wish B&D had tossed in another dollar for rubber feet, because then it really WOULD have gotten 5 stars.

I just received this Black and Decker small step ladder from Amazon. It took a few weeks to deliver and looks like it was drop shipped from Black and Decker. I don’t know why Amazon does not stock this item. Maybe because it is brand new they have not got around to it? The packaging on the ladder was very good. No trouble or damage.
The ladder is a very nice size. The bottom step in wider than the top step which makes the ladder very solid to stand on. Much better than the old aluminum “widow maker” we were using. My wife uses the ladder to reach the top shelves in the cupboards. I used it for painting that did not require a full step ladder. The ladder is made of aluminum and plastic. It is light and strong. Folds up very quickly with no “pinch points”. Easy to move around. It has plastic “feet” so it does not scratch your floors. Rated for 225 pounds works good for us.
I would recommend to others.

This is a sturdy step ladder that is worth paying the extra price for. There are cheaper step ladders that you can find on Amazon, but I wanted one that wasn't flimsy and would last me a long time, and this seems to fit the bill.

Some reviewers complained about how it might be slippery on smooth surfaces. I haven't experienced this on my floors but some floors are made smoother than others. Be careful.

Overall this step stool is working out well for me. It's light and folds up pretty thin. My only issue is that the two steps are not really big enough to stand easily. So if you want to use it for multiple heights, or use the top step for holding a can of paint or something like that while you stand on the second step down, you may find that you lose your balance easily. I wish they just made the two steps about 1 or 2 inches wider. If you are just looking to use the stool for standard 8' ceilings, I would recommend getting the larger one so you can stand on the top. The larger stool is too large to stand on the top without hitting your head on the ceiling, which is why I end up balancing on the top step so much.

This is a magnificent ladder. I just moved into a new apartment and all the cabinets are so very high. I have always felt so insecure and scarced on even short ladders. This is the first one I ever felt secure on. If you are looking for a safe three step stool for your home look no farther. It is heavier than any I have ever had but it is still easy to carry with one hand and opens easily.

I have owned several small folding ladders such as this over the years. Some of these ladders were nice; others were not so nice. As a matter of fact, the ones I currently have are buried deep in the back of one of my barns. They are only be used if I have a sudden death wish...they are absolutely wretched and I hate to tell you, but I spent a lot of money for them over the years. They are clumsy and a true pain to lug around and set up...hey, they seemed like a good idea at the time.

Anyway, this Black and Decker ladder is far and away the best ladder of this sort we have ever owned and used. I simply cannot find one thing to complain about. it is light enough to lift with one hand and it can easily be opened with one hand..a small snap of the wrist will do it. I should note that there are NO pinch areas on this one so the likely hood of hurting your hands while folding or unfolding this thing is slim to none. Despite the weight and ease of opening, this little thing is absolutely sturdy. I weight well over 200 pounds and I can stand on the top step, shake my body around; moving here and there, and there is not even the slightest tremor, much less wobble in the ladder. This is one safe little thing.

There are three steps on it with the bottom one being wider than the top which allows for an extremely firm foundation. The bottom two step are about 3 ½ inches in width with the top step, or platform being 12 inches in width and over 13 inches wide...plenty of space to stand on here. The top stem is rated for 250 pounds but is quite capable of handling more (not that you should do it). With my weight I was able to stand on the top with a 50 pound bag of feed on my shoulder and there was absolutely not give or wobble to the ladder.Read more ›
