I bought this fridge at Home Depot in June 2015. I came to Amazon today to look for a replacement filter and was surprised to see that the fridge had such bad reviews (as of today it has 4 stars with 201 reviews on Home Depot). I chose it because it's counter depth. I like that the ice is stored in the door instead of on a shelf. I agree with the other review that it does seem like it's missing shelves in the freezer. This is my first stainless steel appliance and I do notice that it shows fingerprints. I've been able to easily remove them by using Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish. So far I've been happy with this fridge.

Would give minus stars if possible DO NOT BUY!!!
We bought this fridge from Sears two years ago and it was a disaster from the start. First we received the wrong color, finally two months later our fridge arrived. Promptly it stopped producing ice, then food in the fridge would freeze while ice cream in the freezer remained soft?! Have you ever tried to crack a frozen egg?! Crazy. Then the water line started to freeze so sometimes we have water sometimes we don't. I can tell you six ice cubes also don't last long in the summer with a family of five. We called Sears, we called whirlpool, we had numerous "contractors" out to fix the problem, motor replaced twice, fridge "reprogrammed" and finally a new door after a seven month wait. Now the new door has compounded the freezing of the food in the fridge so much so that a carton of milk was frozen rock solid in the fridge. It's just infuriating and I can get no where with either Sears or Whirlpool. So it's off to small claims court with my frozen strawberries and apples and to buy a new fridge. Buyer please be warned, and whirlpool does NOT stand behind their products, I have been on the phone for hours trying to get assistance.

Whirlpool also censors their product reviews and will not show unfavorable ones on their website so buyer again beware!

Whirlpool is now using undersized compressors with a failure rate and, as such, has reduced their compressor warranty from five years to one year, meaning they do not have stand behind the failures. Our refrigerator was not yet three years old when it experienced complete compressor failure, and our usual appliance repair company declined to have anything to do with installing new compressor.

I called Whirlpool and explained that I thought I deserved some consideration because the unit was less than three years old. They refused to budge. Then I asked for a possible discount on a new Whirlpool unit, and they refused again.

So I found another reputable appliance repair guy who agreed to do the replacement for $700. He spent a couple of hours installing the new unit and it failed within 20 minutes. It turns out that the replacement part is so bad that Whirlpool tried to reduce the warranty on it from one year to a mere ninety days, until uproar from the appliance repair community resulted in the reinstatement of the one year policy. He told us that he had to replace the compressor on another Whirlpool unit FOUR TIMES because the replacements kept failing as soon as he installed them.

So he had to order yet another compressor for our Whirlpool and finally got it working. Fortunately, he didn’t charge us for the extra labor.

So if you just HAVE to have a Whirlpool refrigerator, then buy the overpriced extended warranty (which I never ordinarily do) because you’re going to need it. Better yet, buy a refrigerator from a company that is willing to stand behind its products…the way Whirlpool did in the past.

After reading the other two reviews of this refrigerator I am a bit hesitant, as I have only had my refrigerator for a month. But so far it is okay. Being a counter depth refrigerator makes it much more shallow than my previous refrigerator which upsets me a bit. It doesn't seem to hold as much as my last refrigerator which was a top freezer bottom refrigerator unit.

Also, this is not a smudge proof fridge. It has finger prints all over it, right from the beginning. And with a 3 year old, they are everywhere! And it scratches too. My son has a magnet set on the fridge, and by dragging around the magnets, it left some scratch marks pretty early on.

Since I didn't have a water and ice maker on my last fridge, I was excited to get one. But the buttons are weird, you press them, but it doesn't feel like you are pressing them. The ice comes in cubes, and not those large crescents that I see come from other ice makers. The ice maker is in the door and not taking up a whole shelf in the freezer. But then, in the freezer it seems like it is missing two shelves. There is a lot of open space where there isn't a shelf and the light is in the way. And because of it's shallowness, some things that fit in my last freezer doesn't fit in this one. I have an infant, and freeze my milk in the freezer, well my milk storage unit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K4YSVI) which is 14 inches long, doesn't fit straight in there, it is too long, i have to put it in diagonally taking up more room.

The fridge alerts you if the door has been opened more than 5 minutes, which is a plus when you have a toddler always opening the door.
