I needed a speaker that would fit in my shirt pocket for listening while working. For years I have bought speaker after speaker...never satisfied with any. The Philips 2500 was very impressive, but it broke within the first month, so I tried this JBL Clip. I am glad I did. The search is OVER. Now I can sell off my museum of pocket speakers that did not fit the bill.
I give this speaker the highest recommendation possible.
Powerful, clear and able to deliver HIGH volume without distortion.
This also has the ability to use with phone calls. I have been disappointed with the volume of many visor-type dedicated car Bluetooth speakers---this JBL delivers the volume I was looking for. Battery life is fine, rated at 5 hours. This unit will automatically power down when not in use for a period of time, preserving battery life. The clip is strong and easy to secure to belt loop, It is lightweight, so it works great in the shirt pocket. I attached Velcro to the back, so now I can smack it on my steering wheel or on the wall next to my bed when using my tablet. I noticed that it can be paired with two devices at the same time--cool. Extremely well built. Has a rubber base to neutralize vibration when placing on a flat surface. Has a neatly tucked away mini plug and cable, but Bluetooth is so convenient and clear. Very intelligently designed and impressive quality.
YES YES YES to the JBL Clip are my words to those on the fence about which speaker to choose in this category.

I received this JBL Bluetooth Rechargeable Clip portable wireless speaker and thought it to be exceptional for the teen in my home. The clip is perfect for his backpack or belt loop and has a sturdy latch. You can plug it in easily to any portable device using its 3.5 mm integrated audio cable, but you can play it wirelessly using its Bluetooth functionality, streaming your music with no strings or cables attached. It is perfect for the on the go kid or adult. The directions could use some wording rather than just illustrations, it does take a minute to figure out what the pictures say to get the clip turned on, synced and able to make phone calls amplified. It has a power button, phone compatible button and sync button, once you get it synced you are in business. I did try with multiple phones in my home which all connected and synced to the device and it worked equally well on all 3. I thought the sound was clear and easily understood, no crackling or gaps in speech. If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod you can use that AC adapter to charge it. I don't know if other cells have 5 volts AC adapters. Just make sure its a 5 volt AC/USB adapter. Clip isn't waterproof or dust-proof, so you may want to avoid using it too close to the pool.

Own JBL Micros : Clip appears to be better ( so long as the actual clip doesn't break or malfunction later )

I have two JBL micros and have given away two JBL micros as gifts. Just purchased the clip yesterday. Wasn't looking for another speaker, but I saw it in isle and liked thought of built in speaker phone and ability to use clip as a carabiner.

The volume, clarity, bass, treble, highs, lows & battery life seem to be same as JBL Micro.

Clip has speaker phone, some callers have mentioned it's hard to hear.

Clip looks more rugged, but time will tell.

I really like my JBL Micros as they're proven. I've had them for year and use them regularly for extended periods of time and they just work all the time and at great distances too. Hopefully clip will prove to be just as reliable: buttons & clip doesn't break, clip spring doesn't wear out, electronics & physical speakers last.

Clip is rubberized, all buttons are flush with surface so in theory should last longer, but I wonder how long they'll hold up to being used ( pressed ) repeatedly over time. I like rotary dial on micro because it is easier to locate and adjust.

If I had to buy one or the other I would recommend clip because of the retractable clip and speaker phone. Clip definitely looks more rugged and durable, only time will tell if Clip is as durable as Micro.

Only negative is locating buttons when cannot see them. Since they are flush, it'll take some time getting used to their location so I can press them without looking or when it's dark and cannot see them.

JBL is great company. If one every encounters any legitimate issues, they'll more than take good care of you.Read more ›

This speaker is excellent! I read other reviews before I purchased this and some said that the battery run time is less than the six hours that they advertise but I have found that the speaker can last over six hours. I listen to rock music but I do not tend to blast the speaker at full volume but when I have had it up to about half volume it will last a little over five hours but for normal playing (for me anyway) it has lasted six hours and a few minutes. The clip attaches to your belt loop or anywhere you like making it easy carry around. Phone conversations are clear and it is easy to answer the phone with this speaker. Using the headphone jack that is in the back of the speaker you can wire it directly into your device to save on battery life by not using the Bluetooth feature. I highly recommend this speaker!

Pros:
Bluetooth connectivity is easy to use.
Can answer calls from the speaker and with the mic do not have to have your phone close by (previous JBL speaker required using the phone to talk, no mic).
Excellent clarity from the speaker even at higher volumes.
The built in clip makes it convenient to carry with you.

Cons:
The buttons are difficult to feel so if you do not want to look at the speaker to find where the buttons are, such as when your driving, it can be troublesome to control the speaker.
The down volume control is directly opposite the power button so until you get used to it there is a tendency to turn the device off.
When you do hard wire the speaker into your phone instead of using the Bluetooth the mic portion does not work. I posted a picture the left headphone jack is from the JBL speaker and only has three contacts, the one on the right is from my headphones with mic and has four contacts, the fourth contact is for the mic.

I love this speaker so much that I actually bought another one for a back up! I recommend it and even bought one for a gift!
