I was a big fan of the Mortal Kombat reboot. So much so, that I actually felt the need to unlock everything in the Krypt. I thought the graphics were awesome and the ways by which I could dismember my foes was entertainment beyond belief. The game play of Mortal Kombat X isnt its major issue. Its the lack of content, less than optimal graphics and poor in-game economy.

The graphics are servicable, but definitely not up to par with next-gen standards. Theres a decent amount of fighters but its a joke to think Netherrealm is charging 5 bucks per character(30 dollars for a kombat pack with all the upcoming dlc). Im not going to go into major detail, but I WILL say the whole game feel stripped down based on what was offered with last generations Mortal Kombat reboot. There arent as many levels, there isnt a challenge tower to complete(although there ARE still many arcade-like towers to choose from with many different modiferes which is cool), babalities are gone and the online faction mode seems lacking in depth.

And now onto my biggest problem with the game: The in-game economy. The way you earn coins is fairly typical. You gain a small amount by either performing combos or completing matches. The most common way to earn coins is to play story mode or complete faction war towers(regular towers with random modifiers against competing factions). The problem is, the coins you earn are basically pennies compared to the amount you will actually need to purchase a decent amount of stuff from the krypt. The krypt is actually very deep and well crafted. Exploring is an absolute blast, if only it didnt take hours of grinding just to get enough coins to unlock a few measly items.

This game exceeded my expectations. Negative feedback from hardcore MK fans made me hesitate to jump in line for MK X. However, I'm glad I went ahead and bought it.

GRAPHICS 10/10: The graphics are awesome. For some reason, I expected it to be just a repackaged version of MK9. But I was wrong: MK X is a next-gen game, at least graphically. Even little things, like enhancements to the animations of Raiden's lightning and Subzero's ice, is noticeably better. The arenas are really great. I also like the interactive environments in certain maps.

FIGHTING 10/10: What more can I say? This is a Mortal Kombat game. The fighting has been impeccable since the beginning. I have no complaints about it. The characters are responsive, no glitches. As usual, the combo attacks and special moves are cool as hell. There's really nothing to add.

STORY/ACTING 9/10: This game takes place in the future (Johnny Cage has grey hair). It's interesting to pick up at this point in the characters lives. I like playing new characters and others not available in MK9. The storyline is as good as can be expected. In typical Mortal Kombat fashion, you sort of need some prior experience with Mortal Kombat to understand everything. But most players will get the gist.

My general assessment of this game is this: if you want a fighting game, you won't find one better. A couple characters are missing (Goro and Baraka, mainly), but this didn't upset me much. I'm satisfied with the selection as it stands. If you're a casual MK player, I think you'll be very happy with your purchase.

Incredible! MK9 was amazing, but MKX not only improved the graphics and fighting system but blew the last one out of the water. Great fighting game. If you are a Mortal Kombat fan, you cannot miss this one.

I bought this for my husband and now I am cursing my self for it. I see him less and less with me and more and more with Ermac. He is obsessed with slashing out bodies and removing spinal cords with the fatalities.
Ok the moves are deadly and really gross. The detailing is great. I like the graphics but definitely could have been better.
Its fun to watch the different moves but do not watch if you faint hearted. If you are a mortal kombat kinda fight game fan then go ahead and buy it.

Fun game, was surprised at how gorey the storyline was, but that was a pleasant surprise to me, may not be to others. Since the game was one of the first ones to introduce decent gore to the arcade, was glad to see they had plenty of it, new fatalities are pretty cool and they got rid of a lot of the weird complexities that made me grow to hate the series.
I loved MK1 and MK2, but that's where my love pretty much ended.
I believe 3 kind of ruined the series, even though it was probably heralded as good, but it's Ultimate Tournament Edition Super Challenger Fantastical Hyper Editions with 950 new characters and all new *alities, I questioned how many times they were going to rerelease it and how far the *ality would go. Would the next one have Cupalities, where you turn your opponent into one of many different kind of Dixie Cups?

Suffice to say, MKX brings it back to fairly simple form, there's a bunch of nuances as you play more and more as far as character styles and modes, but all of it is fairly easy to pick up on and not mandatory before you jump into the fray. Haven't had much joy playing it online, outside of joining a faction and doing simple quests, don't care enough to learn the competitive side of it outside of beating the cpu down!
