The trailer got me curious. The documentary was too long and the character less interesting than what I imagined. I was hoping to watch a documentary about an eccentric entrepreneur but that's not really what Bert is. Coefficient Morpheus: 8 (both my wife and I fell asleep).

I had heard the buzz, but my prior knowledge of this company and the man were very far from reality.
It is a very interesting story, sad..inspirational and heart wrenching all at the same time.

It is going to take a day or two to reflect on what I saw.
Might just watch again.

It is proof, that a simple life can be enjoyable and that even a big company fame and fortune can leave you feeling empty.

Burt is his own man. I admire him for being exactly who he is at all times. He's a real man. He gets it. He knows what is important and what isn't. He didn't try to screw anybody, he loves dogs, land, the simple life, treating the world around him with respect. I don't know why people have such a hard time understanding.

I thought this was a real eye opener. I never figured Burt hated people so much and was so eccentric. Although I really wanted to hate Roxanne for what she did to Burt (not his real name BTW), I couldn't. She actually is the one who made Burt's Bees the company we know today. If it wasn't for her, he'd be selling the honey from the back of his truck and no other products would have been made (although he would have been fine with that). Burt even jeopardized the company once it was up and running so I totally understood the need for him to be gone but he was ripped off. What makes it even worse is that it was by Roxanne, the woman he loved and hoped to marry (I'm sure it was a business decision others weighed in on but that part is left out and makes it seem like Roxanne and her alone did it all to him). I never knew any of this and I thought it captured a lot of the 'eccentric Burt' well, his love for nature, and his love for Golden Retrievers. It also went from how he sold honey from his truck to building the business with Roxanne taking the reins but it had left the company matters a little sparse. I think there is more to the story that isn't being told, however what is told is good. As far as the actual making of it, the shots were good, picture quality was good, and sound was good. It gave me the chance to know a little more about the man behind the face of the business Burt's Bees.

Worth watching- a good character story plus intrigue and a good bit of human mistreating human. Burt's vulnerability and willingness to live his life sans too much anger at those who would deserve it could serve as great "Movie club" discussion material.

This was an interesting, well-made look at a very interesting man that we know very little about. I never even thought about the man in the Burt's Bees emblem, and I am a relatively frequent purchaser of the product. I definitely enjoyed parts of the documentary; I really enjoyed the look at his past relationships and was baffled by the screaming welcome he received from fans when landing in an airport at some point. It's hard to tell if they were trying to paint him as a kind of creepy reclusive eccentric or a disillusioned man who's given up on people, which is clear from the personal interviews with Burt and the people around him. He's not an easy man to get close to and get to know, whether by documentarian or his own brother. Overall, it's a nice enough documentary, not worth going out of your way to see, but if you're bored and have some time to kill, there are worst ways to spend it.

I originally saw this film on Netflix. When I showed it to my mother, who grew up in Maine, she immediately asked me to order three copies to give to family members. It's a great story about rural Maine, as well as a story of counterculture versus corporate culture.

I love documentaries like this one where you can meet the people. Burt really is an amazing person, very eccentric but amazing. In a way I felt sorry for him, but only because of his age now I think that they should just let him relax and enjoy his life the way he would like to.
