This is a long review, sorry for that, but if you're thinking about spending $800-900 on this amp, I promise you will find this information useful.

I'm super happy with my Nova65SE from Peachtree, though there are a few issues you should know about before making your purchase decision.

I started with the Nova220SE, stupidly not realizing that the "220" in the name means 220 watts per channel. Well, it was way too powerful for me, and probably is for most folks. I couldn't turn the volume past 20% without bothering other people in my household, or past 30% without bothering neighbors. The unfortunately discontinued 125SE would have been my next choice, but the 65SE is all the power I could ever want, and it's very clean power.

A few notable features:

- Lots of different kinds of inputs - optical, coax, RCA, USB, and they sell a bluetooth dongle for $99 which I highly recommend. The back of the amp has a regular sized USB port for powering accessories, such as that bluetooth dongle or your MP3 player / smart phone / tablet when using as an audio source.

- The DAC inside is really, really sweet. Like nothing I've ever heard. Digital sources sound amazing. Even compressed MP3/AAC files at 320bps sound better than I've ever heard them. Lossless files and well-recorded CDs sound just fantastic. I am super happy with the sound quality from all digital sources.

- The amp functions as a headphone amp / DAC. I didn't think I'd care about this feature so much, but it makes my Senn HD650s sound much better than I've ever heard them before--, and I find myself enjoying music through headphones more and more.

When using JRiver and playing digital files with different bitrates (44.1k, 96k and 192k) via USB, there was a noticeable "pop" sound from the speakers each time that I changed between a different bitrate. If I played all 24/192k files, or all 44.1k files, there was no issue. This did not happen with other DACs that I have tried (at least 6-7 DACs in the last 3 years or so).

Other issue was the RCA input (AUX), did not even work at all. I tried hooking my DAC output into the Peachtree to use it just as an amplifier... no go. Tried all kinds of things, thought my cables might be bad or something... ends up being the Peathtree. As soon as I grabbed another amplifier and hooked it up, there was sound all the sudden.

Gave it two stars because for $700 you would be hard-pressed to get better sound and features, but quality seems to be an issue here.

Fantastic quality, sound and looks. A little on the heavy side but it's no trade off for the stellar quality it outputs. To be honest, I notice a minuscule difference with the tube on or off. Overall though it's a great amp powering my KEF LS50 (red, limited edition).

It's a terrific combination. Cristal clear sound and just enough power for my desk-listening use. Not too heavy but not too lite.

I would highly recommend this little known gem.

Oh and it's cool to see the dial on the amp turn when using the volume controls on the remote...
