This knife guide is ok, but difficult if not impossible to use on the curved part of the blade near the tip of the blade especially on smaller knives. I think you get a much better result if you just use a couple of pennies as an angle guide. After a few uses I found that it's just not worth the money, and not something I would use again. It's supposed to help you sharpen a knife, but it just seems to make the whole process more difficult.

This guide is only useful for the two largest knives in my chopping block, blade doesn't even touch the stone with anything smaller than 2 inch wide blade. The longer the blade the steeper than angle, how can they guarantee the best cutting edge when blades vary so much. You are better off learning a good technique and sharpening by hand rather than using this guide.

It's a good guide, but after a few practices at sharpening, I am getting a hang of things and this becomes unnecessary. I recommend not using a guide, but if you find that you can't seem to keep a good angle going, then this is decent. It is a solid piece of plastic that grips the back of the knife securely (a Henckels Santoku) and at a good angle, while I don't have a different brand to compare it to, I also don't see anything wrong with it.

Good idea and works ok; but will not last. The attached ceramic might last 6-8 sharpenings on my Japanese 1000 and 6000 water stones. One of the six ceramic pieces had fallen off when I un-packaged the item.

Even when brand new, and cleaned before first use (I rinsed it out, and made sure to open it to make sure nothing was pinched in it), it marked up my knife. Also, as many have noted, these types of guide dont' work on the point (and, in fact, across the lenght of the blade, as the blade narrows, the angle becomes steeper). That isn't unique to this guide and there isn't an easy way around that.
