I just received the album a few days ago from Amazon Music. I am a long time Black Moon/Buckshot fan and this album is definitely fire with Buck's flow sounding furious and intense like the old Black Moon days. P-Money's production bangs hard like some NY Boom-Bap of the 90's, 2000 hip hop production. From first listening you would of never thought he was from New Zealand. It shows and proves that Hip hop is truly universal with no sound boundaries. You won't be disappointed to add this to your collection.

Generally when someone hears the title ‘backpack rap’ it can sway in a few directions. Some view it as a title of softness while others will say it represents a sub-genre of hip-hop that is non mainstream; containing relevant content. In this case, Buckshot and P-Money’s ‘Backpack Travels’ (released 6/24) may be implying that they’re taking the listener on a 10-track journey through nothing but realness and reality.

Buckshot has been throwing consistent punches in the game since he hit the scene with Black Moon in the early 90′s. After a plethora of solo projects and collaborative works, he strikes again with ‘Backpack Travels’, cooked up in entirety by New Zealand’s renowned producer P-Money. The production is one of the first heavily recognizable facets off the project. All 10 tracks have a heavily 90′s boom-bap inspired sound, specifically “Just Begun” ft. Raz Fresco and “Killuminati.” The 90′s sounding aura keeps listeners close to Buckshot’s roots, not straying too far into an experimental realm. (In which most fans are probably excited about.)

‘Backpack Travels’ has guest appearances from Steele, Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, T’Nah Apex, Raz Fresco, David Dallas, and Chelsea Reject. For a 10-track project this amount of features may seem to be overwhelming, but that assumption is far off. The chemistry Buckshot obtains with each artist throughout the album is top notch. They also do not override the project; leaving Buckshot enough leverage to lay his science on each track. Brooklyn’s up-and-coming Pro Era was all over this project and the result of them mashing with the legend himself is one for the charts. You can smell Brooklyn burning through the speakers on “Flute”, the albums first track with an official video.

Not as great as the collaboration between Buckshot and 9th Wonder, but this is still a must have for all Duck Down fans

Buckshot is legit. Always has been. Excellent album... Just wish it had more tracks or instrumental versions. Album is a banger but only about 30 minutes total running time.
