I am a huge fan of Tasty Bite premade food. I am a vegan and these are super simple meals that I can take with me to work. So far this is my favorite. It has a nice flavor, you get alot of eggplant with not too much spice. This is a bit more calories than their other meals and it is more mushy, is the best word to say. They suggest using this as a spread or dip or something to add to another dish. I agree. I used it with rice and snowpeas. If you arent into softer food then don't try this as a main course by itself.
Texture aside the taste is on point. It is not really indian food but it sure is a good cheap subsitute.

Delicious and Great Packaging !

I am a major fan of Tasty Bite and enjoy these foods almost daily.

I tried this new item hoping for some flavor variety in my TB routine and this product does the trick ! Lots of mushrooms and potatoes with a milder flavor than most of the other Tasty Bite entrees. I was concerned about the potatoes "blanding" out the India flavors but it's the other way around. The potatoes soak up the flavor and enhance the meal. I eat all Tasty Bite meals with rice, and did this one as well.

If you're starving, the package is probably 1 meal, but served with rice it will provide 2 modest portions. This entree has a much thicker consistency than many of the TB meals which I really liked. I really enjoyed it and will re-order the one when it becomes available again at Amazon.

A great GF meal

This is one of my favorite foods, but I will try to be objective. I got this on Amazon because it's a long trek (45 minute drive) to where they sell it around here. With free shipping, it cost less too. So here are the facts:

This product is meant to be eaten with rice. If you use it any other way it's going to be hot and salty. I eat mine with jasmine rice.
It is salty, but it has less salt per serving than most canned soups.
It is gluten free.
It is vegetarian.
It costs less here than in that big box health food store. With shipping it is about the same.
The texture is a matter of taste - there are tomato and possibly eggplant skins in the mix - not a deal breaker for me, but it's not smooth. The eggplant is mashed, but noticeably distinct.
10 ounces is a little more than a cup of this dish, but think of it as eggplant curry (served Japanese style) and it will go far.

For me it makes 4 meals without any alterations. The flavor is slightly sweet, and hot/spicy. The eggplant flavor is on the subtle side - mostly I taste the tomatoes and the spices. However, as I said earlier, the eggplant texture is evident. If you like eggplant and tomatoes and hot foods, you will like this. I'm the kind of person who eats eggplant on and in everything, including pizza. This would make a good sub for pizza sauce. If I can stop eating it with rice I might try it. It's possible to play with this - I add onions, and I think tomatoes and mushrooms would also go well. Not sure about meat, as I don't like most kinds of meat. I tried yoghurt, but didn't like that, either. I am going to try coconut milk next.

I like spicy food, so keep that in mind for this assessment of heat. To me, compared to Kohinoor Achari Mushroom, this is less spicy. To me it tastes less salty and spicy than Tasty Bite spinach dal. Definitely not as hot as Rogan Josh. Not as hot as a jalepeno, but definitely not mild.

Out of this world tastiness

I wasn't sure I was going to like this - I'd had other Tasty Bite meals and they were all sold out, so I took this, thinking of the lentils my mother used to make, and wondering if it was edible. Now it is one of my favorite Tasty Bites! Its very soupy - you definitely need to eat it from a bowl with a spoon. The taste is just out of this world - perfectly seasoned, rich and creamy - I don't know what it is, exactly but it makes my tongue just dance. I eat them for lunch, sometimes alone or with a vegetable, there isn't a lot in a packet but it's a good side dish size for one person too.

Vegan. Natural. Kosher. Chana Masala is a top favorite vegan Indian dish. Was very happy and eager to try another choice for Chana Masala from Tasty Bite, especially because Amazon seems to have trouble keeping the Chana Masala's in stock because they are so popular. Did not disappoint! Very enjoyable. Sweet coriander is the most prominent flavor note. The brown savory gravy is delicious. The amount of chili is very mild, so not very hot at all for Indian cuisine. Heat affectionados may want to add chili pickle, or their favorite condiment. Made with onions, chickpeas, tomatoes, sunflower oil, coriander, salt, spices, chilis, bay leaf, and turmeric. 360 calories and 12g protein per pouch. The best of the Tasty Bite meals!

This is the best of the Tasty Bite Indian retort-packaged dishes. It is moderately spicy and has a wonderful flavor of eggplant. It is a bit oily, like some Indian foods can be at times. The texture is sort of creamy/lumpy because of the eggplant seeds.

It is wonderful with a little microwaved frozen broccoli added to bulk up the meal, along with brown rice and some frozen naan. Yum!

This same item is sold camouflaged at Trader Joe's.
