This is an excellent value for a superior form of Pharmaceutical Grade L-Tryptophan. This amino acid is a superb sleep aid (usual dose for sleep would be 1500 mg, or 3 of these capsules, taken on an EMPTY stomach, at least an hour and a half after eating, with water or a small bit of fruit juice). Never combine any amino acid with any protein-containing food or drink (like milk) or you're just wasting your money.

L-Tryptophan helps raise serotonin levels in the brain, leading to better sleep, less anxiety, higher emotional resilience, more relaxation, and better mood. It can be taken in a lower dose during the day, if needed for these effects (a single capsule).

I've also used Source Naturals L-Tryptophan 500mg, 120 Capsules with great success, but I actually think NOW's brand works just a bit better for me (I sleep a little deeper). Costs a bit more, but worth it--enthusiastically recommended!

P.S. Anyone on any type of antidepressant medications MUST talk to their doctor before taking tryptophan. Also, exercise caution if you're taking St. Johns Wort--Google "Serotonin syndrome" for more info. Always thoroughly research your supplements for possible interactions before taking anything. Sweet dreams!

I can't praise this L-Tryptophan highly enough. I've been on and off of prescription anti-depressants my entire adult life, but for the first time I feel as though my brain chemistry is actually "normal." I feel happy and WELL for the very first time. I even have NATURAL energy versus needing to turn to caffeine all day.

If you suffer from depression, I HIGHLY recommend that you try this and also get Julia Ross's "The Mood Cure." In it she explains why most depression sufferers benefit from this amino as well as many of the others, like GABA and DLPA. Since beginning a regimen of the three--and L-Tyrosine--I've felt better than ever.

Let me first start off by saying I'm not prone to write reviews for products. But I vowed that I would write a review if this product helped me. And it has! I've been miserable for a very long time. I've had depression and anxiety for years. I thought I should deal with it and try to cope but it was taking its toll on my body. I was exhausted ALL the time. Sleeping became useless because I would toss and turn all night and I would wake up just as exhausted as before. Crying became a daily routine and I couldn't see why life was worth living. Until I tried this product. I'm on my third day of using this product and I'm feeling so much better. I'm sleeping through the night and my anxiety attacks have subsided. If you're experiencing similar problems try this product. My only regret is not finding this sooner.

I recently added L-Tryptophan to my sleeping aid cocktail, and it's been amazing. The main benefit I've noticed since I started taking L-Tryptophan is when I wake up now (be it after 4, 6, or 8 hours of sleep) I feel instantly awake and ready to go. It's interesting to feel fully refreshed after 4hrs of sleep, something I haven't felt since I was younger. Although it may not last throughout the day, but I believe it's a good indication of how well this medication is working. The addition of L-Tryptophan also makes me more tired and helps me actually fall asleep moreso then any one thing I take.

I've suffered from insomnia since I can remember, even if I want to sleep and am trying - my brain is simply too active to let me sleep at night. I took ambien for a short time and it was one of the worst medication experiences I've had. So have been experimenting with different combinations of OTC sleep aids the past couple years. My currently nightly ritual (unless I'm somehow tired already) is :
1-2x Nature's Bounty Melatonin, 3 mg, 240 Tablets
1x Doctor's Best Suntheanine L-Theanine (150mg) Vegetable Capsules, 90-Count
1x Now Foods L-tryptophan 1000mg, Tablets, 60-Count (or two of these)
1x

First let me say that I am a healthcare professional and unlike my colleagues, whenever possible I prefer Natural Supplements to Rx Drugs.
This product and/or its metabolite 5-htp was recommended to me to treat insomnia by a friend who is also an M.D. (Neurology & Psychiatry) and also an expert in treating various medical conditions with Natural products vs. Prescription Drugs. L-Tryptophan is not habit forming and can also be used to treat some (but not all ) forms of depression. If you are going through a lot of stress and your mind is keeping you awake, this product works even better when taken with Source Naturals THEANINE SERINE and NOW St. Johns Wort. As with all supplements and Rx Drugs, I do not believe that the correct dose is the same for everyone. In my opinion the correct dose for any drug or supplement is the smallest dose that gives you results. As always, you must seek the advice of a qualified physician who has experience prescribing both natural supplements & prescription drugs before taking any supplements unless you are 100% sure that the combination of Rx drugs and/or Natural Supplements that you are taking is 100% safe (or that you understand the risks)for your particular body.
