(This is a follow-on to my top-rated review of the original formulation called GU Brew Blueberry Pomegranate.) GU has recently reformulated it to have less carbs/calories, and the result is even more drinkable. This is a good thing, because, as I note below, you really need only two things from a hydration drink: 1. sodium, 2. a taste that makes you want to drink it in order to get the sodium. (Otherwise you could just drink pickle juice to get the sodium but you'd never enjoy it or drink enough of it!!)

I've only used the Blueberry Pomegranate flavor but I find it just right. Not too sweet like some sports drinks, but not too salty, especially given the 2x sodium. I'm been using this and the previous formulation for almost 6 years now. The main difference with this new formulation is that it has a lighter taste and you only need a single scoop where previously two scoops were needed.

If you especially prone to cramping during long training or competitive events, as I am, then you MUST choose the Blueberry Pomegranate. It provides TWICE the sodium of the other GU Hydration flavors (500 mg per serving). Sodium has been shown to be the key element to replenish to prevent the major type of heat-related, twitch muscle cramps, according to a number of sports science studies. In hot weather, it's usually good to drink an entire sport bottle of GU Brew at least an hour before the event, and then consume another 32-48 oz throughout.

As with any other large canister of powder, take extra care to keep water out, and you'll be fine.

I really love these. They are very reasonable priced. I would recommend mixing this with 30 ounces not 21. I only take one in 30 ounces of water 2 hours before a half marathon. For the first 6 miles my sweat is so salty that it almost burns my eyes.
The first time I tried the product was in 8 ounces of water and it was a disaster in my stomach.
The flavor is very easy to tolerate, and if you add it to at least 20 ounces water it will not taste salty at all.
For the rest of my run I only do gels and water.

This was my favorite on the road hydration drink until the changed it. Now it is tasteless and I am not even sure it works the way it used to. I am an avid cyclist. Can't stand sweet drinks like Gatorade or Powerade on the longer rides. The pomegranate blueberry formula with the extra sodium was perfect before what ever change was made. Now it is not worth the money and I am looking for a replacement.

One of my all time favorite drink mixes to date, really glad I tired it. As far as being 'better' I cannot say with any credability. I know that it helps my water have some flavor and I do seem less thirsty, though I continue to drink / sip as I always have. Overall I am happy with the product and will continue to buy.

Didn't realize I was buying the smaller container until I received it. I was used to buying the larger container a while back but started buying Skratch because it taste better and can be mixed with salt supplements and still taste good. I was buying this to use on the short rides locally since it was more bang for the buck than Skratch labs. Now after purchasing these containers of GU and getting less, the Skratch labs is better in price and taste. They stopped selling the larger containers.

nice refreshing taste and twice the sodium for when you don't want to cramp or even start to get that cramp feeling in your legs after a few hours of going hard in warm conditions. Tastes good and works. I bring some of this and some lemon lime too and go back and forth.

It would take a ton of this to get enough electrolytes, but if you load up on powder it starts to taste sickly sweet. Wasn't a massive fan. I feel like it smells way better than it tastes. The powder will NOT dissolve in cold water.
