So I've bought two of these, I should get to rate it twice!

.... the first was in my house for about 3 hours before the combination was locked inside by accident, just after we had started putting important documents inside (totally my fault, my wife enjoyed pointing and laughing). SentrySafe has a procedure where to can call in, give them the serial number and they will give you the combination but these safes are too cheap - no serial numbers printed on them so I needed a locksmith. He took one look at it and quoted me $50... it took him about two hours of brute-force before he finally got it open, he was shocked, I was shocked. Fast forward a year and safe #2 has been going strong (with the combo written down in a couple of discreet locations OUTSIDE of it this time)

The other reviews here seem to pan this product because it's not got a digital lock, because the product isn't as pictured, or both. I ordered this late on Thursday and it arrived this morning (FedEx on a Saturday, free with Prime!!) - and what I got is a mechanical combination lock safe exactly as pictured.

The safe itself is solid and well-constructed, but the lock mechanism appears to be pot metal and some sort of plastic composite. This safe is sufficient for the purposes for which we purchased it: to keep our kids' paws off our stuff and to protect our important papers in the case of a fire. If you're looking for something that's super secure, this probably isn't the safe for you.

When we received the safe, the lock was open, which as it turns out was extremely exceptionally fortunate, because there was no trace of the combination ANYWHERE. This takes my rating from 5 stars to 4 (and if I hadn't found resolution on my own, would have knocked it down to a 3).

Sentry Safe supposedly keeps a list of serial numbers and factory combinations and could presumably have provided it to us - but their customer service group is closed on Saturdays. No customer service on Saturday knocks my rating down to 3 stars.

A quick look at YouTube quickly revealed that the inside door panel is quickly and easily removed, no screws, only snap-in tabs - all you need is a key or butter knife to remove it. The panel removed, it quickly becomes very easy with a flashlight to see the tumbler slots swing into position and then get the number by looking at the dial.Read more ›

Well, Its a fire-resistant, water-resistant safe...

Was damaged upon arrival. Corner is dented in pretty good. Its right where the styrofoam would of been in the package, And the box itself shows no sign of damage, Which means the company itself sent it out like this... Some quality control.. LOL.

Dial makes a LOUD clicking sound when spinning, And the handle/dial does feel a little cheap, But it works as it should.

Came with the tray and shelf, A sticker on the front door of the serial number, Which I removed with ease and stuck it to the instruction book.

Did come with a combination on the instruction book.

It does not have a spring re-locker, So you have to make sure you spin the dial after closing, Or it can be opened back up easily.

it is VERY heavy. I barely could pick it up by myself. definitely would make robbers run a bit funny trying to carry this safe.

when my house burned down (along with 1500 other homes in the valley fire of 2015 in northern ca.) and I heard stories of other people who had other safes with nothing in them but ash I was very concerned about the contents in my safe. NO WAY I thought there would be ANYTHING left in my safe just like this one.2 weeks later they let us back in and LO AND BEHOLD! everything was just fine. cash, wedding rings, cold coins and silver dollars. AMAZING!!!!! Nothing else survived the fire except this safe.only bummer was that sentry safe, who claimed that they would replace a safe burned in a total loss fire.....lied. Gave us a huge runaround until we finally gave up and just bought another one.

The safe has been perfect for my needs. It's one thing to read about dimension and another to actually be able to fit important documents, etc., that you need to store in safe. Once unpacked, I was able to move it around on carpet to locate it in the best place in my office area. The combination provided has worked each time. I am very happy with this purchase.

Not what I was expecting. It was shipped with a dent, is dusty/dirty, and is obviously a refurb. The combination lock feels very cheap. made of cheap plactic. And it this model does not allow you to change the combination. It it wasn't so freaking heavy I would return it.
