Look, for only 20$ this is a fair to good alternative to the more expensive adapters. However the thing is very finicky. Don't let your PC sleep when it is connected or otherwise you have to restart. The way I do it is to disconect the monitor from the display settings, pull out the device and sleep the computer. When resuming I connect the device and enable the monitor from the display settings. Also, even if you connect it to USB 3.0 you might run into the trouble of not being able to set a high enough resolution. The monitor's optimal resolution is 900x1440 in portrait mode. However when trying to set this resolution the display area jumps outside of bounds. Setting a higher resolution won't do as is compacts the fonts in a really unpleasant way. Lower resolutions are crappy too as you are not fully using your monitor. I settled then for 800x1280 I believe. Did experience some minor flickering but nothing persistent. All in all this is a good compromise to the more expensive alternatives. Worth the try. Oh and it is better if you use the driver provided by Fresco Logic on their website. Just Google it!

I needed dual monitor for work. Had many issues looking for something to allow my HP Pavilion 21 Touch Smart to work with my old Dell monitor. Found this product and order it because it was the cheapest around and seemed easy to install. I receive the item in good condition. However, it does not come with instructions. However, it came with a small disk for instructions. I had few problems installing. From my computer not reading the disk to the disk took some time to load up, finally the "wizard" pop up to install. **In fairness, if you want an instruction manual, the disk has a pdf file but I still have issues opening it.

Once everything was installed, my two monitors worked. But now my secondary monitor (Dell monitor) is flickering. Its not a flashing or constant flicker but it does flicker if I move the mouse on either monitors. I sometimes notice that if I am doing work on the primary monitor, the secondary flickers as well.

I;m recently waiting for someone to contact me on the flickering. I am not sure if the pdf file has the answer because its non responsive when I tried to open.

Windows 7 requires a driver, contrary to the description. Even with driver installed, getting proper resolution is extremely difficult. I was only able to get 800x600, even in a USB 3.0 port.
Spend the extra money and get a quality unit.

Didn't work. Driver wouldn't install. No name on package and no website to find online driver. This is almost 2015, you should never make the customer have to work to find utilities to make your products work. Don't waste your time on this product.

I used this to connect a second external monitor to a laptop. I had 3 monitors total (laptop display, 1 hdmi, and 1 through this), and it worked as expected. There are a couple things to note here. I was using this in a development environment that was mainly text based. There is a little bit of lag with this, so anything more intensive than that (gaming, watching videos, even browsing the web) probably wouldn't work well. I have since switched to a mac, and can no longer use it, as the drivers are not mac compatible (not that I need it because my mac has more video outputs than the previous laptop). If you are running windows and simply need another video output with minimal resource requirements, this works as expected.

I did however find the drivers (if you are looking for them) at the www.frescologic.com site.

However, I was expecting to use this for a system as a secondary monitor in Windows 7. That would mean that I could have one thing on the main monitor and something different on the main monitor.
Once we got the drivers installed and rebooted the system, I now see the SAME THING on both monitors and the windows display settings only see one monitor. I cannot find any way to make windows see a secondary display adapter/monitor in order to enable the "Extended Desktop" mode.

This product might work OK if you are trying to replace a dead display adapter or clone the same system, but it does not work as an extended display adapter to support 2 monitors with DIFFERENT resolutions/settings/images/etc.

Luckily this item was very inexpensive. It took over a month to be delivered and after installation of driver/software, the product displayed at a very LOW refresh rate and at 24-bit color. Very bad product.
