Style Name: Food Processor with Dicing Kit
I had one question when I saw this new attachment for my mixer - does it really dice? My faithful old free-standing food processor works well and comes with many and varied discs - they slice, they shred, they grate but they do not dice. Until the old appliance shreds its last head of cabbage or finely grates its last wedge of Parmesan cheese I have no intention of looking for a replacement - but when I saw an advertisement for this new mixer attachment my resolve dissolved.
My concern that it might not perform as promised caused me to buy it at a big box home store that has three Bs in its name. I figured it would be easier to return it, if necessary, rather than shipping it back to Amazon. With the holidays on the way timing seemed perfect -- it would get a good workout and hopefully reduce my time and effort in the kitchen, so I decided to make it my gift to myself.
Not surprisingly the first thing I tested was the dicing disc and cutting blade - it takes two pieces to dice. The onions and potatoes I used were effortlessly turned into small squares just under a third of an inch in size (8 mm.) And, since this was the entire reason I purchased the attachment I admit I squealed like a little girl, but I did not stop there - I tested the other blades and everything works fine.
I use a large food processor when canning because it plows through big quantities, but for basic meal-size needs, this device is perfect. And, through its special food push tool, it even offers the ability to process one carrot or a couple stalks of celery at a time -- so the entire feed tube does not need to be packed full.
I tried a number of things -- grated some red cabbage and a block of cheddar cheese, sliced cucumbers and celery and did not have a single problem.Read more ›
