This solar charger works flawlessly at what it is designed for but there are a few things to take into consideration. This charger works best and outputs full charge rating when the charger is facing directly at the sun, if the charger is getting sunlight at a strong angle the efficiency will drop way off resulting in little to no output. If this charger is used on a car dash it will not perform nearly as well as outside the vehicle as the windshield will block part of the sunlight spectrum that the panel needs to convert into power. The cooler the outside air the better the panel will convert sunlight into power. Newer iPhones have a nasty habit of popping up a message "This accessory may not be supported" if there is insufficient voltage coming from the Solar charger requiring the USB cable to be disconnected and reconnected to the iPhone or iPad to resume charging and this can happen if the panel is subjected to partial or full shading from clouds or shadows from objects if the charger is used in a vehicle, other devices may have similar issues as well. To overcome unplugging and plugging in the USB cable to resume charging a simple USB battery bank may be used in between the Solar charger and device so the battery bank will provide a continuous amount of current regardless of quality of sunlight. In full sunlight this charger will power and charge a 4th generation iPad or iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s or 6 at a 2 amp charge rate. I have also used it to charge a 10,000mAh battery bank and JBL charge bluetooth speaker without issue.

Edit: I just did a quick test charge during the early evening hours while the sun was low (about a 45 degree angle in relation to the face of the solar cells) and I was able to bring an original iPad battery up 21% in an hour which breaks down to 1388mAh with an average of 1.38 amp charge rate.

I love this charger! It rocks. I have had it about a week now and have tested it under numerous conditions. Under direct sunlight, this is every bit as fast as charging with an outlet. I took it to lunch & sat on the patio and charged my phone 25% in about 20 to 25 mins. On a cloudy day, it still performs, much slower, but it still performs. I have a 11,000mah battery pack & on a VERY cloudy day & it went from 0% to about 1/2 full in about 12 hours. Mind you this battery pack takes about 5-6 hours to charge in an outlet, so I thought it did great for a super cloudy day. Hey, free power is free power, I'll even take a trickle charge if it's free.

I have also used this fishing. I just throw it on the back of my kayak with a usb extension I got at the dollar store. I like to watch netflix while I sit out on the water and in the past, my phone would die after just a couple of hours of streaming. The other day, I was out for 8 hours straight & when I got out of the water, my phone was still at 100%!

If you are looking for a great solar panel at a decent price, look no further. This is it!

I did bought this one from the same seller off eBay (From All-Powers). It is AllPowers12 Watt 9Volt solar charger like it says it do perform like it does in specifications mentioned. It charge my ipod 5th Generation in just 1.5 Hours under bright sunlight. And my Huawei G610 from 0% to 57% in 40 minutes. It also really useful even in cloudy days but it performs it bit slower than usual. i don't mind as it will charge your phone at a trickle rate. If you leave this item at your car dashboard, you might hide your phone away from direct sunlight as the heat from the sun will damage the battery. It keeps my mobile devices fully charged all the time. And I really satisified with this device.

So far it's good. In the weak New England December sun it charged my LG smart phone 13% in 19 minutes. Despite being at 11:30 am the sun was low in the sky. Charged the phone from 65% to 95% fast via hanging the panel on the mini van's hood. Added some charge to my Goal Zero Guide plus AA battery pack however the panel's electronics did make a slight buzzing sound during that process but not when charging my phone. Maybe it's an issue of the higher draw. For example the Goal 10 plus does the same thing when charging an Azus 10.1 inch tablet but it's silent when charging my cell phone. In any case I don't think the buzzing harms anything plus it's not all that loud.

Was unable to charge both the LG and Goal Zero guide 10 plus AA charger at the same time in the drying 3 pm December sun but frankly was surprised it could add charge to either singularly given the weak sun which it did. The produce feels and looks well made. Both USB ports and red charging indicator LED works. The included USB cord is long enough for it's intended purpose. It came with two aluminum clips for attachment to a pack or in my case the windshield wiper.

Also the price seems good for this item. So why no 5 stars? I simply don't have enough long term experience with this product to say it's worthy of 5 stars. If you're reading this review months or years from now and I have not added comments on any failure then assume this is a 5 star product. If something goes wrong I will let the community know. As of right now I consider this a good buy for those wishing to charge small electronics, rechargable batteries etc etc etc.

edit. I am pushing up my rating by one star to 5 stars. Testing shows this to be a good product. Unless something changes it will remain 5 stars.Read more ›
