This thing is fantastic! I've been roasting my own coffee in a small frying pan and that got old quickly. My roasts were uneven and it was not easy to prevent from spilling beans over the sides of the pan. One must maintain the beans in constant motion, and as the roast continues your arm tends to get tired and your movements more sloppy.
You put the beans in this little ceramic roaster and you swish them around, but because of the shape and the small hole on top, no beans can escape as your roast them!
Now for some "negative" points: this roaster is small and can only roast about 50 grams at a time. This roaster also gets very hot and the leather handle must be designed for hands much smaller than mine. It's made in Korea. Maybe the people there have super small hands, I dunno, but the handle isn't large enough to protect my hand from the heat. So I have to wear leather work gloves when I use this roaster. And lastly, the handle should be just a little bit longer.
That said, I started with praise for this awesome little roaster, I want to end on a positive note: I love it!!

This is a most useful item which takes some time and skill to use properly. But the end result-- a good cup of coffee with low volume and easy clean up, is worth it. But of course not only are you roasting your own, you're grinding your own.
