This is a great harness for my awkwardly shaped rat terrier! She's 23lbs and sizing took a bit of guess work, but small ended up being the perfect size for her. Like other reviews have mentioned, the straps are difficult to adjust at first. *Note, this is easier to do when your dog is NOT wearing it*. We've already put it through the ringer on multiple hikes and trails, and it holds up to all the pulling and running. Also seems to provide adequate back support for when my pup decides to kangaroo-hop.

12/10/14 - I have an 11-pound pom-mix who takes long walks and runs 2-4 miles a day. He's a good running buddy, but during walks pulls himself into a wheezing tizzy (even on his no-choke harness). I hunted for a front attachment harness to help curb this behavior and was very excited to see Ruffwear makes the Front Range. We own Ruffwear's web harnesses for our other two dogs and love their quality and design (one is over 10 years old and still is a great harness). It is really cool Front Range has both a front and back lead attachment. I'd definitely put both of those to use (front attachment for solo walks, back attachment for runs and dual-lead walks with his larger whippet "brother").
When I measured my pom-mix, he was 2" below the maximum chest/waist width for the XXS. It came today and is a beautiful harness. I love the bright orange which would make him stand out if we are in the woods or walking along the road (it is *very* reflective).
The front attachment is not obtrusive. Part of how Ruffwear pulls it off was making it from a nylon strap that is reinforced with some kind of heavy rubber. I am not sure if this is just on the small dog harnesses, but if I had a stronger breed--like a pit bull--I may be reserved about using it until I test it thoroughly. The back lead attachment is the standard Ruffwear metal loop stitched into the nylon which is very tough.
The ID pocket is a great idea. However, I think they make it a little too hidden. It took me a moment to figure out how to even open it, and the ID label is tiny. I will put one in, but will probably continue to use collars for ID. :)
The last issue (the most important) was how it fit my pup. I had to jam him into this first harness (XXS). It fit like a weenie skin.Read more ›

Our dog is a larger Lab and a puller. We tried (very hard!) to train him to walk nicely starting when he was a little puppy, but have had limited success. To date, he is most under control when using the Gentle Leader, but this can lead (no pun intended!) to marks/cuts on his muzzle if he gets overly enthusiastic on the walk. Generally, it's not a problem, but we want to take him on more hikes and outdoor adventures where he still needs to be under control, but where we have found limits with our current system of the Gentle Leader. Enter the Ruffler Front Range Harness! We received it the other day and our initial impressions of the quality and fit were fantastic! It is very easy to adjust (easier if adjustments are made while off the dog) and appears to be very comfortable for our big guy (we went with the L/XL size). The first time I put it on him, he acted as though it was the most natural thing in the world and immediately started trying to engage me to play and then laid down with it on :-) We have tried the harness around the neighborhood on his regular walks and have also been impressed with the control it gives us. Our dog seems to walk differently with it then with a regular collar and appears to be "trying" harder to walk without pulling. It has also been easier for my husband to reign our dog in when he starts to pull (as compared to collar alone). We like the back metal ring for the leash attachment better than the front chest loop as it seems sturdier for our big guy (for reference our Lab is about 105 lbs). If your dog is used to walking with a front attachment harness, it might be a great option for you, but as our dog is not, it is a bit awkward to walk him that way. Overall, this has been a solid investment that we think will work well for longer excursions allowing us to keep our dog safe and under control, but without the risk of cuts/rubbing to his muzzle. If you are considering this harness, I recommend going for it!

Love this harness for my husky, Shelby. Medium fits her perfectly and I especially appreciate the padding on the strap that goes behind her legs. Previous harnesses without this feature left my dog with raw worn "armpits" that were painful and took a while to heal. I have had no such issues with this harness, and she can be quite a puller.
