I have an ASUS C200MA-DS01 Chromebook set up in the living room as a "house" computer and 7 people living at home currently. There's always someone using the Chromebook for something so when I installed this privacy screen from 3M, I got a very enthusiastic response from the household. It's annoying to have your brothers or sisters or <gasp> your mom walk by as you're pouring out your soul in an email (or whatever it is they are doing on this computer.)

The privacy screen fits my Chromebook screen perfectly! It's designed with a matte finish on one side and a glossy finish on the other side. Which side you choose depends upon your personal preferences and your environment (matte is better for sunny areas which cause glare on your screen.)

This is different from a screen protector in that it does not have an adhesive side. Instead, it comes with some thin, double-sided, silicone-like adhesive strips that adhere it to your computer screen. There is a small notch cut on one edge of the privacy screen for ease of removal. The directions for installation leave a lot to be desired so take your time to figure out the strips before trying to apply the screen. NOTE: the blue film is removed before applying to your computer screen.

It works like all the other privacy screens I've used in the past. You cannot easily see what is on the screen unless you are looking at the screen straight on. Looking at it from the side or from above makes the screen look very dark and it's hard if not impossible to see the screen. Of course, it darkens the entire screen to some extent no matter what so if that will bother you, you may not like using a privacy screen.

My family members all love it and have asked for privacy screens for their personal laptops, too.

I wanted to love this privacy filter but the best I can say is that it is ok. The filter itself is sturdy with two sides to choose from - glossy or matte. Despite the claims that one is better for screen resolution and the other for cutting glare, I couldn't really tell any difference when switching between the two.
Both sides darkened the screen but not enough to bother me at all.
Two things disappointed me. First, the application. You can either position some narrow, blue strips of adhesive tape directly along the edges of your screen or use some clear, adhesive slide mounting tabs (all are included with the filter).
As others have stated, the blue adhesive tapes are unsightly and a distraction since they directly interfere with the images on your screen. This is also the more permanent of the applications.
The slide mount tabs are a bit better - you attach them to the edge that surrounds your screen so that the adhesive is not being applied directly to your monitor screen but the tab itself leaves a small overlap on the screen to allow you to slip the filter into place. But even though the tabs are clear, the edges of these still distract me. Thankfully, I only applied one on each side (which works fine) rather than the additional tabs. On an 11.6" screen, every bit of visibility counts and adding more tabs would have been too distracting and not necessary.
I actually like this particular application since it allows me to insert or remove the filter - or even change from glossy to matte sides as my needs change - and is the one I will continue to use.
My other disappointment is with the privacy factor itself. I had to move my computer quite a bit before losing any visibility - close to 60 degrees off center before my screen became unreadable.Read more ›

This privacy filter is just the right size for my Samsung Chrome book. In the past, like 20 years ago, I've seen filters that degraded the screen image too much for my comfort, but this one is better. I think I see a very slight dimming of the display's brightness, but it's not much. 3M makes quality products, and this one is quality too. One side is slightly glossier than the other, and the instructions say the glossy side out provides better image resolution, while the non-glossy side gets rid of most screen glare problems. I like that side better because the ceiling lights and the window behind me don't cause annoying distractions on my screen, and I can't see any noticeable resolution difference between the two sides. The sticky tabs to mount the filter on the screen are well thought out, and if you follow the directions everything works very well. You can see the screen well until you get about 60 degrees off to either side of straight out from the face, and then it suddenly goes completely blank. This does provide a helpful level of privacy if you're working with your laptop in a coffee shop, library, or other public place.

I am generally more worried about the information I can lose electronically than by someone looking over my shoulder. That being said, I still like privacy filters. It is so instinctive to look to see what someone else is doing that I even do it when my teenager is texting. I definitely don’t want to know that! Don’t want to know it, don’t want to see it…

I generally don’t keep much information on my chromebook. I usually use it while I am on the run and so I don’t let it even save my passwords. Google can be a little trouble, I mean nosy, I mean overbearing, uhm, what’s the word I am looking for? INTRUSIVE. That’s it. Google knows all. I just wish it would tell me things like where I left my keys and my iPod.

The only other way to protect the information on my chromebook would be to put a bubble around it. I like bubbles.
