Yukon Gold potatoes are my favorite since they are moist with a naturally buttery flavor. Better Crocker combines them with regular garden variety Russets, add margarine, with partially hydrogenated soy bean oil and a bit of real butter, skim milk powder and 4 different preservatives and calls them Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes.
They are a convenience food, no doubt, but the taste is actually better than the majority of rehydrated potato products out there. Prices do tend to wildly fluctuate, but we are happy to order 7 packets of these for a nice add-on price every so often. 3 stars for ingredients list, 5 stars for flavor, averaging out to 4 stars overall. One tip: I often use mashed potato flakes instead of flour to thicken sauces, stews and chowders. Essentially gluten free but contains soy, whey and milk.
