The Sony Region Free Blu-ray players are hands down the best players if you are interested in playing Blu-rays or DVDs from different zones or regions. Sony makes 4 models (BDP-S1200, BDP-S3200, BDP-S5200, and BDP-S6200) Please make sure you buy the Multi system version if you want region free functionality. It will say in the title of the listing.

I'm posting this same review on all 4 models since they are basically all the same unit with different features and I have had the opportunity to try all of them. First all these players are region free and will play blu-ray movies from any region including A, B, and C regions. Also standard DVDs from anywhere in the world play on these players.110-240 voltage allows for use anywhere in the world. Plus they are "smart" players which allow you to do Amazon prime and instant video. So if you're like me and have a Amazon prime account you can watch the videos directly on your tv. This is one of the hundreds of apps available on Sony players. I've also tried using youtube, pandora, and netflix- all of them work good. Netflix is a bit slow to bootup but once it's done it works flawlessly. I personally have the BDP-S5200 and the BDP-S3200. They are practically all the same except for a few differences. The BDP-S1200 is the basic player and requires a hard wired internet connection if you want to connect to internet. The BDP-S3200 adds WiFi built into the player. Next is the BDP-S5200 which adds 3D support so it has WiFi and 3D. The last is the BDP-S6200. This is their highest level model which has Wifi, 3D plus it also if 4K. I personally own the BDP-S5200 and the BDP-S3200. I have also used the BDP-S6200 because a friend of mind has it connected to a 4K tv. These Sony players are excellent quality and work great.

Acquired this unit from 220 Electronics and I must say I'm very very pleased with the results. The DVD multi-region part is automatic and requires no input from the user at all and the Blu-Ray Zone Free operation is a simple matter of using colored buttons on the remote corresponding to each Zone you want to watch. (I'd tell you the whole secret but I'm told that the steps are different for different sellers of this device and could harm the programming in some way on a device that isn't set up this way so I won't) but relax the instructions for the method to use with 220 Electronics machines are included in the package and it's remarkably simple. The best part is that the BP-S6200 can be firmware and software updated via the auto-update system without harm to the Region Free chip.

I have a new LG-55UB8500 4k 3D television and I can tell you that the 4K upgrade on DVD's is nothing short of astonishing. My Mission Impossible shows look like they were filmed an hour ago in high definition. I don't think the Blu-Ray upgrade is quite as good unless the movie was remastered in 4K to begin with. Other 1080p Discs tend to be a bit overdriven. (Possibly because Both the Sony and the TV upgrade to 4k and it may be a bit much for a poor 1080p Disc). The 3D conversion on the Sony BP-S6200 is superb but only as good as the original source. I already had the BP-S6200 but wanted the Region And Zone Free capabilities so bought this one as well. I consider the upcost well worth it.

Bottom line I can now play all my Blu-Rays from England and Germany with no hitches and all my American DVDS (and the foreign ones too for that matter) look absolutely astonishing.

I'm very happy with my purchase.
My need for this kind of bluray/dvd player was maybe the same you are here too, today, play bluray/dvd from everywhere around the world.
I have been trying DVD and bluray from south america and bluray from the UK and Austria, No problem at all.

About the 4k upscale ,is very hard to really appreciate it. People who understand about that say that you will only notice if your tv is more than 65 inch and of course 4 k ready, mine is 4k ready but 50,...I only know that I love the quality picture. On dvd's, yes, you easily notice the upscale, I had a dvd home theater, that I use as sound amplifier(dts, etc..), and dvd pictures are completely different when you switch form the bluray to the dvd home theater player.

Any way I will upload some pictures where you will see the values readable on the screen. The pics do not reflect the quality on the screen, I did not put to much attention in getting professional pictures, just my intention were to make you able to read the screen info.

I bought this uinit for its BD Multiregion capability which I think this is the only Device that can do that. And, by God, it does, It played region 1 and 2 without any problem. However, it took me about 2 hours to make this unit work, because when I set it up according to instruction it did not work, it did not start at all. I changed everything, the HDMI ports on tv, the HDMI cables, I tried it on another 2 HDMI tvs, it did not power on at all. Then accidentally, I unpluged the HDMI cable from the TV, and to my surprise, it started working . Now, everytime I want to use it, I just unplug the HDMI cable and it will power on without pressing ON/OFF button, then I replug the cable and watch. If any one faced this issue and found out the solution please let me know. I would have given this BD player 5 stars, but because of this issue , I give it 3 stars only.
UPDATE: I just found out the cause for this problem. The HDMI control on the unit is set to [ON] when I turned it [OFF] everything worked fine. Now I don't have to unplug and replug the HDMI cable for the unit to work.I think this was a mistake from the factory setting because when it is set to [ON] that means the unit can only be controlled by the TV remote control, and there is no mention of this in the instruction manual. I imagine how many people returned their units because of this mistake. Anyway, this BD is fantastic in itself and for that reason I upgraded my rating to 4 stars.
