This was a great family gift and is a favorite of our kids during warmer months. We usually bring this along on family campouts, as well.

The set includes:
Six wood mallets with a chestnut (dark wood) finish
Six matching colored balls to match
Two 18” colorful wooden stakes
Nine steel wickets
A carry bag

The bag makes it easy to store and transport, but admittedly, it is the weakest link of the package. The balls, mallets, stakes, and wickets have all withstood lots of abuse and show little sign of wear.

I purchased the Intermediate Set, but the classic set comes with larger mallets, longer stakes, and bent wooden wickets. I'm average height and our youngest player is 6 year old and the mallets are comfortable for both of us and everyone in between. I don't think you can go wrong with this set.

The hole for the handle to screw into on the red mallet was too large so we had to glue the heck out of it to be able to use it, so now it doesn't come apart and fit back into the case, which is a bummer! Overall it's not as sturdy as I would like but we haven't had anything break yet, so that's good!

I purchased the "Vintage" version of this set to use when the family came over for Easter, and found it to be well-made for the price and a perfectly fine croquet set. The mallets have metal fittings where the club head and handle come together, the carrying rack is not fine furniture but adequate for its purpose. The wickets were the big surprise; they were industrial strength and could be used on a construction project!

The only problem I had was that the six wire fittings that hold the balls were made from a brittle wire, and two of them broke at one of the right angle bends when I was installing them. A little 5-minute epoxy with some thickener tied them back together and I had no further problem. Other than that (pretty easily remedied) shortcoming, I was perfectly satisfied that I got what I paid for.

I purchased this croquet set for my father's 62nd birthday present as he loves the easygoing and laid-back style of the game, and for the price of this set compared to others I felt that I couldn't go wrong. Oh boy. How wrong could I be when it came to quality and durability. This set is a complete croquet set to be certain: it has the mallets, wickets, pegs and balls, but upon receiving the set I soon realized that the balls were simply hard plastic, and the mallets aren't sturdy in the least. Some of the mallets aren't able to be totally screwed in tightly so it wobbles at times, and after several hard hits the plastic on the end begins to come lose.

If you can afford a bit pricier set I would suggest that instead of this one for sure. I know, unfortunately, at times money dictates the quality that we must settle for, but this set was highly disappointing to my family and I.

I started putting this together and half of the sticks wouldn't screw in right and the ones that did screw in wouldn't stay very well. And when they are screwed in, they don't fit in the bag! It seemed like junk to me so I returned it.

Purchased the Franklin Expert package for a Memorial Day weekend family affair: The wickets we received are BARE METAL - not coated as advertised and the end points are squared off - not pointed. The fit and finish of the mallets and handles are "spotty at best", the paint finish on the balls is marginal, the stakes' end points range from 3/8" to 1/2" - not real conducive to pound them in.

Bottom line - don't buy this mis-advertised trash. My suggestion - buy a much less expensive non-Franklin product for an occasional family use. Franklin SUCKS!

Rather sad the quality control. Franklin used to stand for quality. Not sure what it stands for today but quality NOT! The balls themselves appear good although the paint on the stripes is quite shoddy. Not a big deal but just the same, not the normal standard of Franklin. The wickets are the real issue. they are too short. If you put them in the ground securely, there is barely enough clearance for the ball to clear. Overall, just disappointed in the quality of the product. Sorry.

Almost perfect set, they arrived perfectly fine with only one minor complaint. The bag came apart at one of the seams as soon as I picked it up, but colorful duct tape and that was fixed. I will know my bag from a far distance away so I can live with that.
The only other thing I wish was different was the wickets are a little short for my lawn. But those are two very minor things because what is important is the rest of the stuff.
This set (the classic) looks great, has a solid feel and are the right height for adults (short to tall). If you are looking for a step up from most sets this is the one for you.
I loved this game as a kid and love it just as much as an adult. It is neat to see this game coming back into popularity!
