I am again sourly disappointed with the installation process, tech support and licensing hassles of PaperPort 14. This install was an upgrade from PP12 because it had been reinstalled too many times, causing blockage by Nuance. I could have called them again but it was time to get the latest version.

I am a home user, who started with PagesPro then a Xerox product. I like the product, particularly the image printing to PDF and the PDF editing features. I use them regularly.

Unfortunately, with this edition, after a clean re-install of WIN7 Pro 64-bit the image printer driver refused to install -- the main program installed fine. I called Nuance support, no 800 number available, was on hold forever and the best they could do was say try reinstalling with the firewall and anti-virus disabled. That made no sense, the main program was installed and registered.

My problem was with the printer driver install only. There are a lot of us with that problem. I read their posts. I tried many workarounds with no meaningful help from Nuance. Finally, I found a utility in the image printer driver's program folder for reinstalling the printer driver after an OS upgrade - WORKED LIKE A CHAMP. To bad Nuance did not know enough to tell me to try it.

ALSO, there is a known bug in the standard version of PP14's update program. It does not report any update! There are many workarounds on the web for that as well, however, none worked for me. I am yet to call Nuance for their "help" with this known bug. I do not hold out much hope for that.

I waited a long time before purchasing this program. I was using paperport 9.0 and liked it. Negative reviews of this version made me very hesitant. I am only a at home computer user but I scan and file every important paper that comes my way. This program does everything that 9.0 did and more. Scans are easy and the edit utilities are great. I can't say that this would or would not be a good program for small business but I don't see why not. I do know that the negative reviews are far off in my opinion. The download was easy and the hundreds of files that I had stored in paperport 9 transferred over without any work on my side. I can't speak about their customer service because the program has worked with flaw. The program is fast and very easy to use. I hope this helps those who are on the fence as I was.

I think I just wasted my money.

Had PaperPort 10 with my Dell MFP. Worked great. Could do all sorts of scans. Lots of options. Like flat docs or ADF scanning to a PDF and saving "profiles"

Now I upgrade to Win8.1

10 doesn't work. OK I happily purchase PP14. What a letdown. I was showing my wife how to scan medical docs and I would make her a profile... Guess WHAT. I have to upgrade if I want to have more that the 4 or 5 canned profiles that come with it.

Want one to get a multi page PDF from the glass, one for multi page from the ADF? NOPE - I have to change the profile each time. My wife has no idea how to do that.... Used to be easy. And - I paid for this version. Now if I want more than the 5 canned profiles - I can cough up another $ 150.00. You've got to be kidding me.

There is no link to dropbox or anything common - that probably costs more too... But - OOOH - I do get Nuance web storage. What a joke. I'm trying to get things in one place such as Dropbox or OneDrive.... NOPE. Doesn't work.

I'll probably be returning it as it is not ready for prime time and I don't want to pay 4x my original price to be able to do a few basic things. The PaperPort basic 7 year old version (that was free with my scanner) had better features than this.

I hate getting stung like this by SW companies...

I'll not make the same mistake twice.

Any help would be appreciated, but I'm not hopeful. Been on this horse before.

If you want to use this software with a USB cable, it works - I like the software. If you want to use it with a wireless printer or scanner, forget it. It just doesn't. Not with my Brother scanner/printer; not with my HP scanner/printer. I paid full price for the software, have called tech support 3 times and still have not been able to get it to connect to my wireless printer. They run about 30 minutes of drills (all the same) and just say -- reinstall it and then hang up. They won't even wait to see if it works. Read the forums, read the support hints -- just don't buy it if you want to enter the age of wireless printing and scanning. This doesn't work with wireless printers and scanners. Did I mention this doesn't work with wireless printers and scanners??

PaperPort 14 was the most headache inducing software to install that I had to deal with in a while. The darn thing kept hanging up (or freezing) at 90% installation! I began to research at both Nuance website and google and for a while, I thought I had found the issue. But no matter what I tried, it still would not install correctly. Let me clear something that is erroneously reported on the web: this product IS compatible to 64 bit windows!

Long story short, the problem specific to me was that I was using a wifi connected printer. On a hunch, after connecting the printer to my computer with a USB cable...Wham! everything installed quickly. Man, I wish this was addressed somewhere before I spent hours trying to install this software. I hope my experience help others.
