Did what I wanted.

Did what I wanted, allow editing Adobe .pdf file without paying Adobe's monthly editing fee. My last .pdf file editing software is no longer being updated.

However, came with many annoying extras that took time to delete and slowed my PC down after I decided I did not need them. If I had done a "custom install", may have been able to avoid them.

A few quirks, but very capable software for a great price

The first project I bought this for was scanning old genealogical records to create a PDF book. I needed to crop, rotate, and in some cases, reverse white-on-black scans to black-on-white. Finally, I needed to combine all of these pages into a single PDF file., and make it "searchable"; so I could find specific text within the scanned pages. It took some effort, but in the end, I was able to accomplish all of these things with the software.

The only real issue I found was with the "Make PDF Searchable" feature, which OCRs the text so you can find words within the document. The feature itself worked fine, except in some cases where I had rotated a page and cropped it, the "Make Searchable" function would move the crop rectangle so that part of the page was no longer visible. I was able to work around this by using the "Make Searchable" function BEFORE cropping.

All in all, I am very happy with its ease of use, I didn't have to look up much in the manual. This is great software for a price far less than Adobe Acrobat Standard.

Less Bloated Acrobat Replacement, but Quirks

I've used Nuance Paperport pro V12 and the bundled PDF program for a while on an older XP computer (soon to be retired).

Power PDF is a significant step up that adds form creation, OCR features, conversion to/from PDF from lots of document formats, and adds a version of Dragon for adding notes to PDF's. It is at it's heart a PDF converter.

Installation was completely uneventful. The registration/activation is a bit annoying but it seems the sort of the way the software world is headed. This hasn't always been the case for Nuance products. Paperport in particular was known for installation problems.

Like most Nuance products I've used this has a quirkyness to its interface. If you have used other Nuance programs you'll know what I mean. If not you'll either get used to it or become frustrated. I think most people adapt without much trouble.

In general I've used the PDF conversion features and some basic form creation so far. I've played a little with the dragon notes and it seems to work pretty well with my voice.

The results seem to open on fine on Acrobat Reader XI and Acrobat Pro X..

Power PDF installed and worked well. It has a broad set of features. The interface is Nuance "quirky" and the registration/activation is a bit annoying. So I'm giving 4 stars to Power PDF.

Installed extra junk software on my machine without asking.

The actual software that does the .pdf files is great. Easy to use, simple and I was able to make my .pdf quickly.

The reason for the 1-star? All the other crap that Nuance installed on my machine. Startup processes, some sort of cloud program, some total garbage from a company called FlexNet.

And they did it without asking.

I do not tolerate that. This is my computer, not theirs. I consider what they did no different than if they'd walked into my house and painted my walls a horrible color.

If a software company wants to install something on my computer, they better be asking first.

Well-priced pdf app that does what I need it to do

Updated to this from a previous Nuance pdf program, and like this one just as much. It allows me to manipulate documents the way I need to, and the OCR works pretty well, too. I've had very good results with Nuance software in general, including my scanner software.

Good, but has issues.

I really like the software, but there is definitely a watermark issue. After installing, I entered the serial # and installed the hotfix. After a few hours, all my documents had the trial watermark on them. Apparently, I have to wait up to two days for anyone to get back to me. Should have bought the Corel software instead.

Very viable alternative to the high priced spread

I have been using this product as an alternative to Acrobat. It works very well and is faster. It is also a whole bunch cheaper. Rendering seems to be very accurate; no problems so far despite a complex mix of text and images. Markup and other document manipulation tools are just fine.

I'm not a super power user. I need to render images and Word documents as PDFs for training purposes and public posting on our intranet site, and so that they cannot be altered. This products works just great, and is a whole bunch cheaper than Acrobat. Straightforward functionality and price are its main selling point. I can't speak to very, very high end functionality such as forms creation or other complex tasks.

Prefer over Acrobat

I needed to update Adobe Acrobat and decided to give Nuance a try. I have found it to be as powerful as Acrobat and far easier to use. Excellent software.
