This kit is a great start. I will probably add a few small things (different colored buttons, more safety pins) to make it complete. One thing I will say though... I read through the reviews and saw that a few people said this item is "dollar store quality." Well, I took heed and actually went to 2 dollar stores (Dollar Tree and Dollar General) and neither one of them had a kit as good as this one! The quality of this is better and the quantity of items is definitely like 400x better. Yeah, the thimble isn't a steel thimble, but it works. I gave four stars because it's not perfect. I think more pins and colored buttons and/or additional compartments would make it perfect.

It contains everything you would need in an emergency kit and is small enough to fit into travel bags easily.

Having said that I will say that I don't know enough about sewing to say if the most of the materials are good but everything works as expected with one exception.

The container that the needles come in is a rotating case which you turn to choose your desired needle. The problem is that the case is very tightly fitting, jams easily and the teeth to help you turn it are sharp enough that if it unexpectedly jams it is most likely going to cut you.

Within 5 minutes of trying to use it I had cut off a flap of skin from my thumb from it jamming. Solution I found is that the bottom covering is only held on by some glue and thus can be easily popped off and then the top can be easily rotated from then on.

This item is sadly, almost poignantly, cheap and poorly made. The eyes of the needles are literally fused closed; the "scissors" are flimsy fake metal and do not cut; the thread is sub-standard on horrible fake plastic spools. Every item is a poor imitation of a sewing notion that functions. The cheap but functional case is awful, but at least zips and holds the rest of the faux items. Worthless.

This sewing kit is for extremely light-dut usey and totally unsuited for "mending, camping, dorm use " etc. The only threads included are very light duty decorative types in several colors, and the only needles included are for fine or decorative work A complete waste of money.

It's ok, it has the necessary things to do a quick sew job but I was disappointed in the quality of the thread. It's super thin and not very strong. I tried sewing some pants that had gotten a hole in them but they easily opened up again. The needles themselves look/feel good though. I just wish the thread was better.
