My feeling are decidedly mixed on this product: on the one hand, the image quality is totally inadequate for any commercial use or any use that requires resolution above 640x480. The HD resolution is merely a scaled-up version of the base resolution, so you're getting a bigger file size, but no additional resolution. At 1280 x 720, you can't even make out road signs 7-8 car lengths ahead of you. And, at that resolution, a 4 minute video clip is over 500MB. Image compression makes the photos look like you used a 90s-era "Pastel" filter from a photo-editing program. On the other hand, getting a camera, a waterproof case, a helmet mount, handlebar mount, and a stand mount for under $25 is ridiculously cheap. The mounting mechanism will work with existing tripods, but is not compatible with GoPro mounts, so you will need an adapter if you want to use the included mounts with a GoPro-style camera when you decide to upgrade. In the final analysis, its not very useful for much in the way of serious filming, but its an affordable, fun little entry-level camera that you can use to get the hang of action shots. Or give it to the kids so they won't touch your "good" camera.

I got two (one for each kid) last christmas. the kids love them! i bought one more for myself at half price and couldnt be happier. its light, small and very easy to use (no brainer) one kid has been making movies of the pets and the other has had it bolted to an R/C car and taking a beating. i plan on using it for my bike rides this spring and summer. yes, having to buy the micro SD card separately stinks, but its 8 bucks at walmart and you get up to 10 hours of video time. my battery has lasted over two days and at least 3 hours of recording and deleting. if you're one of those dopes that has to have a gopro, suit yourself. i'll take nearly as good video and have enough left over to pay for a trip to use the camera.

For a cheap little camera its ok vs others. Recording in 720P is not the best idea cause the play back is zoomed up and cant change it. If you leave it set to 640 is not a bad setting with ok looking video and the mic on this camera isnt bad as well. When in the case with the waterproof door you cant really hear anything and would half to almost yell to hear yourself. The other door that comes with the case has little holes to help sound to be picked up by the mic and very simple to change the doors out. Over all i havent had any problems with this camera as it was a simple little x mas gift and i wont mind using it for random outdoor video recording. Deep down if you want a good starter camera like this just go pick up the SJ4000 with a price tag at $60 starting out.

This camera is a piece of crap. I bought it yesterday and I am taking it back in the morning. I would take it back today if I could. From the beginning I knew this was going to be interesting when I put the memory card in it and it displayed no card. Then when you turned it on it would not record or it would come up with do you want to format but it would not let you select no. When you select yes it would say waiting and display an hourglass. I watched this for about an hour before I finally reset the stupid thing. You may as well keep a jim clip handy if you buy one of the pieces of junk. Then it said there were no images on the card and turned right back around and displayed card full. Unit would not come on when plugged in to the usb. AND DO NOT EXPECT HELP FROM customer service. You will be speaking to someone who does not understand english or speak it well enough for you to understand them. I finally just hung up on them after about the tenth time hearing I am very sorry to hear about that in broken english.
I should have known when I could not find this model number listed anywhere on Vivitar's web site and all they had was something close that looked like it.

Great for the price that it is selling for (currently $23 from amazon). Comes with a variety of mounts for the waterproof casing; could probably connect to anything (mounts are probably worth more than the camera). Easy to use--start and stop with one button, although user interface otherwise is a bit clunky (can't switch between picture and video mode without taking out of case). Maybe I had the setting wrong, but the image was a little more zoomed in than I expected. I didn't time battery life of the built-in battery, but seems to be a few hours. Probably only works starting with a totally blank micro sd card in it. Underwater photos were surprisingly clear. Other reviewer who noted images look a little over-sharpened is probably right. I won't use a product like this enough to spend the money on a goPro; this does plenty for the price. The buttons are so easy to use, I'm thinking about using this to take photos from my motorcycle (taking photos with phone super awkward/impossible while wearing gloves and motorcycling; a cannon compact point and shoot the buttons are tiny). Or, for the price, could probably do other crazy things with it like rig it up with a light and a sewer snake to take video of your home sewerline to see where the roots are breaking into it...
