It looks like our friends at Symantec took a page from Intuit's recent strategy with TurboTax "Deluxe" when they replaced Norton 360 with Norton Security 2015. Intuit removed functions from TurboTax Deluxe which many people relied on, while continuing to call it "Deluxe" and charging the "Deluxe" price for it. If customers needed this removed content, they would have to pay considerably more for the "Premium" edition upgrade. Please see the reviews for TurboTax Deluxe for more information about how badly Intuit's strategy backfired.

With Norton Security 2015, Symantec removed the disk optimization, file cleanup, diagnostic reports, and startup manager features that were included in Norton 360, while charging the same/similar price for this detuned version of their product. Fortunately, Symantec is looking out for us! For an additional $30, they will sell you Norton Utilities, which will replace the features they removed from Norton 360.

Personally, I will not purchase from companies that engage in such corporate greed-based business practices. With the tremendous clout that corporations have in our society, it's easy to believe that what we do as individuals can't make any difference. I referenced the TurboTax issue because it appears that Intuit is taking notice of the negative press (and the impact on its bottom line), as many of its customers are pursuing other options. There are many viable alternatives to the Norton products as well. It is important to remember that these companies need us. When enough people send a message (with our pocket books) that we won't tolerate greed, they will have to listen.

I would rate this ZERO stars if possible.

This is offered as a download or a disc. I ordered a disc. I got a laminated card with a number that allows a download from their site. Excuse me? I opted NOT to download, then had to anyway. I'm a webmaster with network training. I know I didn't imagine ordering a disc. On top of that deception, 2 days after installation, Norton just disappeared from my computer. There is still a folder for the software but all the files are gone. I got Norton tech support to do a remote reinstallation AND to find and fix the problem. All they did was reinstall Norton, which worked for 2 days & it disappeared again. Norton can't or won't explain it.

To make matters worse, they have NO American tech support. It's all in India so add in the complications of barely understanding what anyone says. Trying to get tech support via live chat was no better. Repeated requests for an American did no good. They say there are no American tech support people. They offered to connect me with a supervisor. I asked if that would be an American and they said there were no Americans anywhere in support.

So after Norton disappeared the second time, I didn't let the India tech support do anything else to my computer. I opted for a refund. I'm not saying the tech support people did anything evil to my computer, but they didn't even attempt to find and fix why Norton disappeared the first time, they just reinstalled it, which obviously didn't fix the problem. I could have done that myself.

I'm going to write a complaint letter to Norton. I've used Norton products for over 30 years but I'm looking for something else now. This experience has left me with no anti-viral protection and very frustrated with Norton.

I guess it is my fault for not being more careful. However when people are trying to trick you sometimes you don't see the problems. I searched for Norton Internet Security and found Norton Security. I thought they were the same. They are not. The key code doesn't work with Norton Internet Security. Second I was mistaken (= fooled by Amazon and Norton) that the big box contained a CDROM. It does not!

Platform for Display: PC/Mac/Mobile Key CardEdition: 5 Devices Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have, quite literally, used every well known brand provider of Internet security over the last twenty years. McAfee was the first product that I ever bought to protect my home computer, but since then I have fluctuated primarily between them and Norton. Changing security software every year has become something that I really dread. Whatever system you have wants you to renew (usually at an exorbitant cost) and the yearly reviews are reliably mixed. There is always the potential for horror stories. If you read comments for any product, there will usually be glowing five star accolades interspersed with dire one star warnings. So I always think that this'll be the year that I wreck my computer! However, this year I just updated from 2014 to 2015 under the Norton brand. There is no direct upgrade, however, if you already have Norton. You have to buy a new suite but, of course, you can just wait until your current subscription expires.

What's different? The name change, for one. Now it is simply Norton Security. And it is an all-encompassing configuration for PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets. Improvements include advanced protection which is largely behind the scenes. The new interface is nice and I liked that now I could have browser protection without installing plug-ins. The system is also supposed to aggressively combat threats in real time, but I haven't noticed a lot of operational change.

Installation: I switched over to this Norton Security 2015 on my laptop, tablet, and desktop units. All are relatively modern (within a couple of years) with two utilizing Windows 7 and one on Windows 8. In each case, the installation was a relatively smooth process and the initial scan seemed comprehensive.
