I just started using my ZAQ mirage, and, so far, I'm thrilled with it! To be honest, when I first opened the package, my first reaction was, "This is it!!??" It is flimsy, cheap looking plastic. I expected at least part of it to be ceramic, or at the very least something more..... substantial. I was disappointed and almost put it back in the box to send it back. I'm very glad that I decided to give it a chance.
First of all - it works. You immediately get puffs of fragrant steam that fill the room. The steam, thankfully, is not hot and the zaq stays cool. It is a very efficient diffuser. I got the mirage version specifically because it holds the most water and lasts the longest.
The added bonus - it is SO PRETTY!! I was looking for a high quality diffuser, and I got a pretty light show to go along with it!! I think the lighting aspect is the reason the plastic seems so flimsy. It is made SPECIFICALLY to enhance the colored lights. When it's working, you can see that it was crafted carefully. The plastic needs to be light and ceramic would not cut it. This is not junk. The person responsible for the zaq has got to be a very capable engineer. Kudos to whover created the zaq - it really is a work of art.

BONUS TIP - If you have a cat, the MIRAGE model is the best one for you. It is flattish and sort of looks like a manta ray, so your cat won't tip it over with his or her butt while rubbing up against it. Of course, kitty will still be able to push it off a table. We all know kitties can push over twice their body weight when they want to. If you keep your mirage on the floor, kitty will be pretty safe with it. One of the best aspects of the zaq is that it stays cool, and even the vapor is cool, so no one will get burned.

I have 3 diffusers and this one is my favorite. The mist is substantial and runs the whole night for me. You can have the lights fade in and out, set it at a color you prefer or keep it lit with no color. You can also not use any light. It works very well.
It is also very easy to use.

Purchased the 200 ML cylindrical model. Very disappointed that the diffuser came just in an Amazon box with no product packaging and no instruction manual.

It took a while and some searching to discover how to control the unit without the assistance of the users manual. You must push down on the top of the ceramic cylinder to change modes (there is no button). From the off mode:

1 press turns on the unit with lights that cycle
Another press locks the lights to current color
Another press turns off the lights
One last press turns the unit off.

I love this diffuser. The only reason why I gave it a 4 stars is because I dislike how the on and off button is on the bottom. Making it difficult to access. Its quite easy to use (besides the on and off button). Last about 3 days for me depending on how often I let it run. Our house is about 1900 sq ft and I can even smell the oils diffusing upstairs (sometimes but not all the time). Another thing the direction are not clear about is that you need water in the diffuser before turning it on. I wanted to see if it worked before I added water and couldn't figure out that I had to add water first then push the on the button.

This review is for the "Mirage" (the one that looks like a manta ray and not the dew drop mistakenly pictured here on Amazon). I liked it okay at first, but eventually had to return it, which I'll get to.

Frankly, I was somewhat underwhelmed when I took it out of the box. I couldn't help but feel, "This is it?" Fortunately, it seemed to do what it's supposed to do. It's very quiet, EASY to use (no need to really look at the little instruction booklet included), with just the faintest bubbling sound, which to me was peaceful and relaxing. Usually, I didn't even really take notice of this, and I do have my sound threshold issues. The colored lights cycled nicely in the same order over and over, fading from one color to the next. For instance, red fades to purple with a brief intermediary color between the two, so there is always seamless color of some shade. There was a mist, and you could smell the essential oils. The outer machine stays cool, but I did notice the bubbling water inside sometimes got rather warm. The mist was always cool though, but hardly deserves to be considered a humidifier. I suppose after 8 hours it must add some moisture to the air. Adding oils like ravensara, sage, peppermint, tea tree, camphor, lemon balm, eucalyptus etc. is great for clearing the lungs.

I don't think it would be great for large rooms. I used it in a small study, which was fine. I also think it would have worked well on my nightstand since it would have been close to my nose, although I never got around to using it for sleep. The mist that rises from the hole at the top is not much bigger than a meager plume, so if you think your room will be pumped full of heavenly-scented vapors, you'll be disappointed.Read more ›
