I first became interested in buying Komplete for one reason: importing my Ensoniq and Akai samples to a modern platform. I started looking at Battery 4 as a great way to organize and import my huge drum library. Then I noticed Kontakt can import all the other samples too. Since Battery lists for $199 and Kontakt 5 lists for $399 it was actually cheaper to just get Komplete. Boy did that open up a whole different world. Komplete is a premier instrument and effects suite that gives you so much bang for your buck it's insane. Two ROMplers (samplers) with 14 additional plugins, four software synths with seven additional plugins for one of them, plus an already packed effects suite with an additional 11 effects plugs.

The amount of content you get is dizzying. You get 13 DVD's all set as a single install (sorry you can't just pop one DVD in and install what's in the one disc) with about 100GB of data. Installation takes a long time. Not only do you have to install all 13 DVDs in sequence there is also about another DVD's worth of online updates. Two plug ins are not included in the package so you have to download those as well (Native Instruments should really consider updating their disc release to reduce all this updating). Once everything is installed you are ready to party.

When I say there is a lot of stuff I mean it. Get ready for the tour, because there is a lot to cover:

I already knew about N.I. products, having already purchased Pro-52 and B-4 many, many years ago. I purchased this software ONLY so I could have Reaktor 5, to build my own synths. However, I now have such a huge palate of synths to choose from, I don't know if I'll ever get around to it! I can't really improve on the detailed review of the products that is already posted, but I'll say this: the inclusion of Massive, FM8, Battery 4 AND Kontakt 5 makes this purchase worth far more than what I spent. Fantastic VALUE!

I've been a Komplete user since V6, so when I recently started working on some new stuff after a 2 year hiatus, I looked to upgrade my VST collection, and Komplete was the obvious choice. However, since I wanted to make sure I got the best bang for my buck (and an upgrade from 7 to 10 was a whopping $700), I looked around for comparable packages. I found none even close, so Komplete it was.

Despite having no choice, there are still a large number of things I find very compelling (Kompelling?) about Komplete:
- Guitar Rig is easily the best guitar effects software I've found. And it's awesome on pianos too.
- Nearly any sound you want can be found or built using the included software....as long as it isn't hyper-realistic guitars (look to RealGuitar/Strat/Eight for that).
- Some of the new instruments (Rounds, Kinetic Metal, Skanner) are pretty damn creative and generally awesome.
- There's an OBSCENE amount of stuff to experiment with.
- Most NI instruments are highly mutable if you tweak your controllers. Some completely transform.
- The Komplete Kontrol app (even without the supported NI hardware) is a really nice way to find all instruments and patches.

Mostly, I'm happy with my decision, but there are a few negatives worth mentioning:
- The search function could use a lot of help. It's still pretty hard to find what you are looking for.
- There's no real good way to rate all instruments/patches. You can in certain VSTs (1-5 star in Guitar Rig, for example), but in others you are SOL.
- NI is REALLY proud of it.
- Some of the instruments (Rise and Hit, I'm looking at you) are so darn specific that they are completely useless for a large number of people.
- The huge number of patches and parameters per patch makes the whole thing an enormous time sink. To be fair, it can be very inspiring. But you can also get lost and forget the thing you were inspired to do.

Komplete Ultimate Products are top of the line! I'm thankful that Amazon mirrored the 50% off price break that Native Instruments was giving at the time. This gave me the ability to cash in some Southwest points for Amazon gift cards and get this basically for free. If you haven't upgraded it's worth it, especially at 50% off.

If you're considering buying this, you already know the value and quality of native instruments products. Though it is a bit on the expensive side the sheer quantity of VIs and samples that you get more than justifies the price. I bought it along with the Maschine studio and Kontrol s61. Can't wait to bury myself in the studio for a few days.

Rated as 2 stars (not 1) simply because there are some things I regularly use from the bundle. But buyer beware!

I own KOMPLETE 9 ULTIMATE which I upgraded to from KOMPLETE 9, now that I am on Yosemite and need to re-install I've run into a number of issues:

1) the drive I have with 320GB of sounds etc is broken, can I replace it? for 120 dollars. yes. Is there a download option? No. SO if you do buy, make sure you have enough space to host it locally or you're in constant jeopardy of losing it all.
2) the installers for my 1000$ piece of software are not compatible with Yosemite so I have to either pay 400$ for the upgrade to KOMPLETE 10 ULTIMATE or downgrade my laptop. That means that if you need to reinstall your software a year or two after you buy it, forget it.

In general, the software is flaky and crashes a lot. The UI is different for every tool they produce and there is no consistency and arcane / non-intuitive. and I am a computer programmer who can easily work in Linux command line and various SDK all day every day. Frankly, you're better off buying a series of specialized FX and instruments from companies who really care. NI KOMPLETE is just a cash farm for a poorly produced library of FX. Customer support is rude and difficult. Thier website is a mess and getting upgrades is a genuine nightmare and I am always feeling like something is about to stop working. Even something as simple as registering your device is very difficult.

Don't buy this or anything else from this company. Choose specifically what you need for your studio and purchase it individually from companies who make boutique effects and care about their customers.
