Peaky Blinders has not "officially" arrived in the US as of yet, but it is on it's way.
I believe after is has shown here it will be available on DVD Region 1. In the meantime,
it is available on other venues and I encourage you to seek them out.
A friend from the UK sent it to me on flash drive and I could not stop watching.
The whole show from cinematic photography, costuming, story line, actors/actresses,
diaglogue....Is one of most wonderful shows I have ever seen...At my age, I have seen
a lot...This is a must see for everyone...When I see that it received on a average of 3.5
stars...I have to wonder, did we watch the same show?
I would like to add, the music accompanying this show was so appropriate. I am one
who detests contemporary music in period dramas/comedies...but in this instance, it worked
perfectly....
I encourage anyone who enjoys a great drama, especially a period piece like this to find a
way to watch or ear mark it for when it comes to the US...Which I believe will not be far off.
It has already been renewed for a second season in the UK...

Dark, gripping, sharply-dressed contemporary-style crime drama set in 1919 in Birmingham, the UK's second city. Based on the true life Peaky Blinders gang, so-called because of the razor blades embedded in the peaks of their cloth caps. Cleverly weaves history and fiction. (A similar appeal to Ripper Street.) Sam Neil is outstanding as the Special Branch policeman sent from Belfast to bring order to the streets of Birmingham, equipped with an Ulster accent that would terrify the Rev. Ian Paisley. The Brummie (Birmingham) accents in the series, which have caused some wry comment in the pubs and barbershops of 2013 Birmingham, may have American viewers reaching for the subtitles.

I am a BIG fan of episodic TV. Normally, I have heard about a program before it first airs and make a decision by the 3rd episode. In the case of 'Peaky Blinders', I was made aware of the show and watched 2 seasons in a 4-day span. That has never happened.

If the lead character doesn't impress, I'll normally quit on a show. While I recognized Cillian Murphy, I couldn't take my eyes off the character. You get a sense of him immediately, but you then grow to understand the layers. Tommy Shelby has many layers.

I hesitate to compare any show to 'Breaking Bad', but there are similarities between Walter White and Shelby. Both men are required to think-their-way-out of problems. Neither is a 'good guy', but their intellect and charisma earn our respect. In both cases, the audience is allowed the opportunity to devise plans along with the main character. With both shows, there is little time to rest; it is a relentless struggle against crisis.

Sam Neil plays Inspector Campbell, who could be described as the bad guy. On the best shows, good and bad are not easily distinguishable. In Campbell's case, hypocrisy is his primary flaw. Neil is normally good, but has never been better.

This is not your typical period-piece. The show uses modern music. Normally, I'd prefer the music of that time, but there is a timelessness to the songs that are used. They work perfectly with the atmosphere.

Montages are often cheap and contrived. On this show, I looked forward to those segments. The montages are as practical and informative as they are entertaining.

I've always been a fan of UK TV. 'Peaky Blinders' is 'in the discussion' when debating the greatest UK shows ever.

I adored this show on every level. I was gripped from the first scene. Some make the argument that the contemporary music is out of place but I disagree. It is mainly two artist used Nick Cave and Jack White who have elements of their music that absolutely work here. The music is, violence. passion, aggression. loss and heartache. All themes throughout this show so I see the relevance and totally "get it'.
I am in awe of the production the sets, streets and costumes. It is dirty and gritty, you can almost smell it. I have also heard the accents criticized. Again unless you are from Birmingham 1919 it probably won't bother you that a few of the actors may not be spot on. But I'm American so I am no expert and it spoiled nothing for me.
Sam Neill is incredible in this. So utterly unlikable at times a monster and yet you feel a sort of tenderness for him as he loses over and over again. I felt absorbed and invested in this series in every way. A new favorite show.

Wow, what a powerful series. I came across this while looking for a new murder mysteries series.
I don't like gore and horror, but I love murder mysteries that are entertaining with a brilliant script and cast.
Peaky Blinders is all that and more, Cillian Murphy portrays the well loved, well respected head of the Shelby family,
He is also the ring leader of the town and Peaky Blinders. He has everyone doing his bidding in a very quiet understated demeanor. Being as good looking as Cillian Murphy is, it only lends to enhance his character and you find yourself rooting for him instead of Sam Niell who plays Major Chester Campbell who comes to clean up the town and the Peaky Blinders.
Yes you have to listen very closely as the brogue is very thick and it's easy to miss something important.
All in all I enjoyed it immensely and can't wait for season 2. There were only 6 episodes in season 1 that left me hungering for more.
