This hand mixer from VonShef is very powerful, yet it is fairly lightweight and balanced in a manner that makes it quite comfortable to hold. The two beaters, two dough hooks, and the one balloon whisk work fantastically well, as does the turbo boost selection, and we used them all with this mixer for several recipes over the weekend and through tonight. We like it very much; like anything, it has its quirks that take a bit of getting used to, but the overall power and utility makes this mixer a force to consider.

A cake, some waffle batter, several dozen cookies, hollandaise sauce, and a tub of lemon icing... all things that we made using this mixer.

The first use with with the icing, and that is where we instantly learned of one quirk. This mixer does not have a setting that goes as slow as the mixers we have grown up with, therefore, we highly recommend that you fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients just a tad before introducing the mixer to the dry ingredients. It is strong, and the powered sugar for the icing was sitting on top of the ingredient pile in my bowl when I stuck the mixer in, resulting in a bit of a powdered sugar cloud.

From that moment on we did a little premixing before using this hand mixer, and all went quite well. Truthfully, I usually don't use a hand mixer for those jobs anyway, preferring to use our KitcheAid standing mixer. Pre-mxing dry with wet solved the issue totally, and, while the beaters and dough hooks worked well, I think that the balloon whisk actually is my favorite attachment so far. That thing REALLY whisks, and both the icing and the hollandaise sauce surrendered to it crazy fast. It is fun to use and less tiring on the wrist, that is for sure.Read more ›

The VonShef hand mixer is one of the most beautiful hand mixers I came across. It came in screaming shiny red and looks like a space ship. It includes a balloon beater (whisk), dough hooks and a regular chrome beater. The manual is also superb with very clear instruction. The accessories are easy to install with a big black eject button on the mixer when it is time for clean up.

It has 5 speed levels. What I noticed about this mixer is that level 1 speed is still much faster than a regular hand mixer I am accustomed to. If you need a sudden burst of speed it is no problem, just push the Turbo and you go turbo speed.

Overall, the VonShef is a beautiful and powerful hand mixer. Even so, I am sparing a star because of the absence of a slower setting.

This is a pretty sleek mixer. It's Very strong on the first setting. I might prefer it to go a little slower because when I put the flour into the cookie batter it flew all over the place. But there was absolutely no problem with heavy mixing. Have not yet tried the dough hooks.

NIce quality and would have gotten five stars if the lowest speed wasn't so damn fast. It splatters stuff all over the place in thinner liquids. What is up with the mixer makers? Why can't you guys make a hand mixer that has a slow speed???? I am building a portable outlet with a dimmer switch as a rheostat, so I can slow this beastie down when I use it for soap making. Also, what happened to the old fashioned beaters that have a little "substance" to them. This came with thin wire beaters that take twice as long to mix. Thankfully, I found an old style pair in my kitchen "junk" drawer and they work great with this.

everything was okay until i went to mix up my cake batter. i had it on the lowest speed and it still went so fast that my batter was flying all over the place. i had such a mess in my kitchen i had to stop and clean up my kitchen before i could continue. i was so mad i put it away and got out my old one to finish what i was doing. i doubt very much if i will use it again. this is the second new mixer I have bought.....Love all the attachments....that is a big plus. However both this mixer and the other one I had bought ( and thought broken ).....do not have a " LOW " speed.....both had 4 - 5 different speeds....but all seemed too fast to start out on. My old and truly loved mixer was over 40 yrs old....but had a very definite "Low" speed....medium and High..... Seems like new mixers just start out fast....which makes all your dry ingredients go flying out of the bowl.....IF one is not prepared for this .....

the mixers is great....except for the need for a truly low speed button

The lack of any low speed on this thing can’t be stressed enough. Its lowest speed is around the top speed of my old mixer. And I’m not really much of a cook, which is why I took other reviews mentioning the speed issue with a grain of salt. I needed a mixer to replace my dying one, which I use maybe every couple months, and I have wanted to try a bread recipe, so the hooks were a nice addition. But when I went to make a cake recently its low speed sent ingredients flying out of the bowl in no time, flat, and I had to pull my old mixer out of retirement.

The quality seems pretty poor as well. When I turned it on to check what the low speed looked like I noticed one of the beaters was off-centered. I switched the beaters to see if it was the beater or the mixer, and it’s the mixer, so the build quality is suspect as well.

In short, stay away from this mixer.

UPDATE (1-18-2016)

This mixer still sucks. The mixer attachments don't work with my old mixer, so I was forced to use this one when needing the bread hooks. Again, the lowest speed sent flower outside of the bowl. Everything within a 2-3 foot radius was dusted with flower and I still had to resort to hand kneading.
