I consider these locks to be pure junk, albeit expensive junk! I live alone -less use of locks than most family's- and have had four of five locks fail on two entrance doors. I must admit that Kwickset was great to warranty the first two defective locks. and then they fail causing me lost time and aggravation. The internal components/mechanism of these locks are plastic and light metal construction lacking in precision. I wonder how any Kwickset engineer(s) could feel good about this design? The key pad faded out on the one that lasted the longest, but that shouldn't be a problem as they most likely will not last long enough for that to be an issue. I do love the concept and have installed a comparable Schlage. The Schlage looks better has a good heavy precision feel to it, has small points that penetrate into the door allowing for less chance of the housings to slip out of plumb and is much easier to install... If any one from Schlage reads this please send me a lock -free lock for the free plug- so that I can replace my soon-to-fail Kwickset backdoor lock! I am 53 and I buy numerous products. I think this is my first review ever of the many products I purchase. I think I was compelled to expose this product to save someone the grief that i have suffered. I realize there are a majority of good reviews for this product and all I can figure is that -hopefully- Kwickset has raised their quality levels. In my perfect little world we wouldn't even need locks! Think-About-It, mark

I have had one of these locks installed for about two years. It gets moderate use and I still haven't changed the batteries. This lock has performed flawlessly. I needed another lock like this for another door so I bought this second one. You won't regret buying this lock.

Bought this for an exterior (but shielded-from-the-weather) door to a detached garage, as I was tired of using the garage door keypad to gain entrance into the garage. (I don't generally keep keys on me around the house.) It installed very easily. I had looked at a set of instructions for this model before buying it and what became clear when it arrived is that they have made installation significantly more straightforward. I was methodical and unrushed as I switched out the old knob, and the entire operation took about 45 minutes, including the programming. We did not need or want a networked lock, but did want to have easy access without the bother of keys, and this was the perfect product. At first I wasn't keen on loosing a traditional knob on that door, but since installing this I have found I much prefer the lever, as it's rare I don't have my hands full when coming or going from the garage. The entrance area is quite dark at night, so having a lighted keypad is great.

I've got these on a rental property and my own home. Besides my car's key fob, I don't carry keys anymore! Its great having these if you have pets too. When we go on vacation, we are able to give a code to someone to feed our pets without having to distribute and collect or copy keys. Also, I like these in particular because they aren't too smart. They're pretty dumb compared to some systems but they are comparatively cheap and don't loose compatibility with ever changing mobiles and competing home automation systems.

I have purchased 5 of these locks for our property at Lowes. All of them broke within a 1 to 2 year period and were sent back for repair with an associated shipping fee both ways. Again, they all broke. Not worth the money. Over a year ago discard four of Kwikset locks and purchased four Schlage locks. They cost about $40 to $50 more but well worth the price - good quality and have not had one single problem. Do not buy these Kwikset locks, you are just wasting your money.

Not sure if I got a lemon or if it's a systemic problem - I installed this less than a month ago and today was unable to open the door using the keypad. It was mostly unresponsive, the 5/6 key would occasionally beep as I pressed it, but the keypad was basically dead. Replaced with brand new batteries and double checked the cable connection from the front piece to the back piece, and no luck.

The install was easy and the aesthetics are good, but if this is what is expected from the electronics (which come with a 1yr warranty), I would look elsewhere.

This is a good product. I even changed the key following the instructions that came with the lock. If you are replacing your current lock with this one, the installation is very easy. Relative to other locks, the numbers are bigger and easier to see. I thought the instruction for the programming of the lock was easy as well. So, overall it is a good product. I do not know how it will work in the long run, but so far so good!

Not only is it simple to install, but I never had to change the keys. The SmartKey function is ideal in today's modern world. i can calibrate this to just about any key. There is also a router you can buy to control remotely. I was ripped off by Vivint subscription when I first discovered these, but I learned that a 3rd party subscription isn't necessary.
