I use other ResMed equipment nightly (a CPAP machine) and so far I'm impressed with this unit. I've used other sleep monitoring solutions (WakeMate, Fitbit, Garmin Vivofit) and they all required some sort of band or wearing something which can be uncomfortable. This unit sits on my bedside table, is powered via a MicroUSB cable (so I can plug it into my multi-USB-device charger), and connects to my Android tablet via Bluetooth. The first couple nights were a little finicky about getting the unit set to the right distance from the bed, but after that everything has worked great. My only complaint so far is that the software has to keep running on a phone/tablet all night, rather than just syncing with the device at the start and end of a sleep session.

Surprisingly good product, given the variable reviews. Clear, colorful graphs of previous night's sleep, including REM, light & deep sleep, and wake times. Helpful advice together with comparison to ideal sleep. Totally non-invasive. Very easy set-up. Perhaps the complaints about excess data use could be solved by denying ResMes permission to write or read your info. Be careful, these buttons occur during sign-in. Shutting out ResMed from your data does not interfere with function of the device.

I received this as a gift. Its scores are consistent with how I feel. One thing I learned is that often, when I feel like I've been awake, I've actually been in light sleep. Further research has confirmed that this is a common misperception because we still process sensory input while in light sleep.

This device looks amazing and the concept is great. I was so pleased to receive it as a Christmas present. Unfortunately it is not accurate and it uses up all your mobile data.

This morning I woke 1 hour before my resmed alarm. I lay in bed reading emails on my phone and it registered this as a mixture of REM & light sleep, this is very disappointing and it makes me wonder if any of the data is accurate. The other major problem is the app runs in the background all the time so it used my 1Gb monthly mobile data alllowance in about 4 days.

I will continue using it for the alarm function and I will probably still use the sleep monitor but take all of the data with a serious pinch of salt.

At the request of ResMed I'm entering this review. I purchased my S+ from Bed, Bath & Beyond and have had it for a little over a year and in general I think it is about as accurate as a consumer sleep monitoring device can be. Without physical contact leads measuring from multiple parts of the body for muscle movement and brain wave activity as a professional sleep study does none of them will be terribly accurate. It is nice however not to have anything in the bed or attached to me and it is relatively convenient to travel with though it would be nice if it came with some type of case.

The biggest problem with the unit is unreliable software. To ensure I had an a compatible phone I bought a Samsung S3 phone and made certain it was on Android 4.4 as specified in the technical information. This phone is used ONLY for this device and about 70% of the time it works fine. The rest of the time the app crashes over and over, looses connection with the S+, alarm doesn't go off, Relax function generates no sound, etc. Rebooting the phone will "usually" fix these issues and it works again for several days, 10% of the time the S+ also has to be unplugged then go back through the Bluetooth paring process. The software is v1.04 and there have been no updates now in over 10 months. It does not seem that the devices is in active development any longer to try and resolve these issues. And no support for Android 5 which has been out now for over a year would seem to indicate the device is probably dead-ended. Maybe iOS users will be luckier than Android.

As a ResMed CPAP user I continue to be amazed that they have not tried to link these devices together. Having the breathing data from the CPAP tied to the observation data from the S+ would seem to be a no-brainer and give a huge jump in accuracy of sleep measurement and a jump on their CPAP competition.

Knowing what I know today would I buy it again? Probably not.

I'm updating this review on Jan 6, 2015. The update of the Resmed app to version V1.03 has rendered this item useless. It has become a super-data hog, using 0.7 G of data in 11 days, 70% of my 1G data plan in 11 days. I've removed it from my phone and can no longer use the device. More importantly, why is it sending 0.7 G of data to Resmed? It asks for access to photos, but why? Several reviewers have removed the app from their phones, per the google play store reviews.

I'm really disappointed. Over the approximately four months that I used it, I become more and more aware that it was not picking up times when I was awake, was not picking up times when I awoke and left the bed, leaving all its data to be suspect. If it can't tell when you've left the bed, how can it tell if you're in light or deep or REM sleep? At this point, I'd consider it a waste of money. I've adjusted my review rating from 4 to 1.

I'm upating this review from one made right after I received the S+ over three weeks ago. My review gave it two stars and said it wouldn't work without the smartphone APP which wasn't yet available. I received comments from two Resmed employees advising the APP would be posted on Google Play on Monday and it was.

I've been using it every night since. It seems to give quite accurate readings. I awake feeling better on days with higher scores. There are no real problems with it, although twice it appeared to stop at night, but in retrospect, those were two days when I had failed to restart my phone, always good to do. No repeats since I restarted the phone.

It's easy to use. Set it up on your nightstand, aim the unit at your chest. Start the smartphone app and follow the instructions.
