I rarely write reviews containing such a harsh caution against products, but this product needs to be seriously reviewed before allowing it to be sold.
As you may have read in other reviews, this mat has an absolute terrible chemical smell which only gets worse with time. We had one of our bath tubs finished and have had no issues with it for years of regular use, and regular cleaning. We do not use any harsh chemicals or soaps in our bath, only natural Castile Soap (Dr. Bronners).
After a week's use, I noticed that the mat was slipping terribly and was losing suction. Upon inspecting the issue, I found that directly where the mat was making contact with the tub, the mat had actually caused the bathtub finish to bubble and blister, similar to what you would see using a paint stripper to strip paint. This cannot be safe! In addition to completely ruining our tub finish, which we will have to have done again, it is also very slick on the feet and does not provide that much traction.
I urge anybody reading this review to consider any alternative to this bath mat. For this to literally begin stripping a bath finish has me very concerned about what exactly is causing the chemical smells.
Since returning this mat, we have purchased a Rubbermaid Commercial Antibacterial Bath Mat in 18"x36" ( http://amzn.to/1eg5FLd ) and we are very happy with it.
edit- I've added a photo of our bathtub finish right after I pulled it off and noticed it. You can clearly see how it blistered in a pattern around the suction cups. You can view the photo in the product photos.

This mat makes bath time much safer for my toddler, who likes to stand in the tub. The suction cups on the bottom adhere very well once the tub is filled with water. We got the clear one, so you can see condensation underneath the mat for a long time after you drain the tub. It doesn't bother us because the mat is easy to pull up and clean.
